The most common answer I get when I ask someone if they sing is, "No, I am tone deaf!" My answer to them has always been "Tone Deafness is rare. Tell me, who has heard you sing and taught you how to listen?" The answer is, "No One?" My next statement is, "Come to my chorus. Learn how to sing. Learn how to listen. Will you be a professional singer? Probably not. But, you will be a better singer."

Only 4% of the population have Amusia, or tone deafness.

I’m tone deaf. I can’t sing. It’s usually accompanied by a smile or laugh, but the message is both clear and absolute. And wrong.
