This year, the Lipinsky Family San Diego Jewish Arts Festival is going somewhere we've never been before: BACK TO SCHOOL!

With deep excitement (and the typical pre-school-year-jitters), JFest is beginning a new educational venture at the San Diego Jewish Academy. We are bringing comprehensive professional level acting training, exciting guest artists, informative workshops, and instruction in all aspects of theatre to SDJA middle school students, along with the joy and energy of a full musical to students in both middle and high school. In addition, we will run programming related to certain Jewish holidays to instill a sense of Jewish joy in these theatre students.

The new program focuses on showing students that the actors onstage are only a teeny part of the collaboration that goes into making a show happen. They will get hands-on instruction to learn all about everything that happens behind the scenes and the opportunity to try these new skills out for themselves, alongside professionals in the San Diego theatre scene.

Bringing the joy of JFest straight to our community!

At JFest, We see ourselves as a cultural arm of our Jewish community. That means making sure art and culture are accessible to everyone—wherever they are. While many join us at local venues, going out isn't always possible for all of our community members, so this season we were thrilled to partner with Seacrest Village Retirement Communities to bring three special events directly to their residents. We celebrated six incredible local women (including Seacrest’s own Debby Stauber) in The 17th Women of Valor, honored iconic Jewish swing and jazz composers in And the Angels Swing, and shared an intimate look at family history in A Special Lecture by Todd Salovey.

Guided by Kibbud Zekenim (honoring our elders) and bringing Simcha (joy) through the performing arts, it’s an honor to enrich the lives of those who paved the way for our community. A huge thank you to Pam Ferris, Carl Measer, and the entire Seacrest Village team for a wonderful partnership! 💙

What makes a hero? And who gets to decide? Next week we have two SOLD OUT performances of Budapest, Budapest, a powerful new musical presented as part of the San Diego Jewish Arts Festival. Through the true story of Rudolf Kastner and Hannah Senesh, this moving production explores impossible choices, redemption, sacrifice, and the stories history chooses to remember.
