Attention ladies, 40 and over! If you're looking for some affordable fun and camaraderie with your peers, then you don't want to miss this. I grew up in the cutting horse industry but for many years I was on the road traveling to rodeos and barrel races. I have reached a point in my life where it's time to stay closer to home. Training, hauling and competing on so many different horses, in all kinds of crazy environments, over the last 30+ years, has given me some very valuable tools when it comes to horsemanship. I'm excited to share some of them with you to help you and your horse be a better team. One thing I've noticed, is that as we age, it opens up a whole new set of things that we need to deal with. Balance issues, fearfulness, lack of motivation and even a bit of loneliness. It takes more effort to do some of the things that once seemed so easy to do, especially when we have to do it alone. Come join me as we navigate through some of the issues that we deal with as horse owners and riders. Knowledge is power and we are never too old to learn something new. ❤❤❤

Today's exercises... four barrel work... it's probably more for me than it is for them. It helps me stay two-handed longer and push through my seat. In the process, it helps to teach my horse to pay attention to my seat and finish those turns.

Q... What's the best way to work a horse that is heavy on his front end?
A... The best way to teach a horse how to shift that weight to the rear is to get them to lighten up in the shoulders. A horse that is heavy on the front end tends to be stiffer through the ribcage and shoulders when asked to bend or flex, especially when counter arching, so that is where I like to start. Rollbacks work on some horses but, unless they are done correctly, they can often create other issues... like swinging their butt around and throwing their head up in the turn. It's all about that foundation. It's way easier to catch those issues early on then it is to try to correct them later.
