What an interesting past our building has experienced! Look at the photo from 1910, there are people walking on the roof! Wouldn’t it be beautiful to find a way to put a rooftop restaurant and bar area that captured the gorgeous mountain views! 🤩 Next time you’re bowling on the lanes, look up and you’ll see the fire scars that we intentionally left alone to be a testament to the buildings long history in downtown La Grande. 🔥🧯🛠️🎳

🏛️ THEN & NOW: A Building with a Long History

What is now home to Brickyard Lanes Bowling Alley has been part of La Grande’s story for more than a century! 🎳

📸 THEN: In 1888–89, this site was home to the two-story La Grande Hotel. After a fire in 1891, the building was replaced by the Fred Holmes Building, constructed in 1910. The first floor housed a hardware store, while the second floor became the Savoy Hotel, featuring more than 50 rooms, electric lights and steam heat.

The Savoy Hotel continued operating into at least the 1930s. By 1961, the building had become the Eagles Lodge Building. Sometime in the late 1960s or 1970s, approximately half of the second floor was removed, giving the building much of the appearance we see today.

📸 NOW: The historic building has taken on a new life as Brickyard Lanes, continuing to serve as a gathering place for the La Grande community—this time with bowling instead of hotel rooms! 🎳

From hotels and hardware to the Eagles Lodge and now bowling, this building has seen a lot of La Grande history unfold. What a difference a few decades can make!

Last night of the No-Tap Wednesday night fun league was a blast it came down to the final game team Strike Factory needed to win one game to take home the title over the Gutter Dodgers, Team Strike Factory put together a comeback for the ages and took home the championship congratulations to all the bowlers.
