Since its founding in 1977 as the Eastern Oregon Regional Arts Council, Art Center East has developed and coordinated arts learning programs in rural schools and communities throughout Northeast Oregon. In the years since, we've grown into a thriving community art center. Housed in a historic Carnegie Library building, Art Center East shows over a dozen annual exhibits (free admission!), offers hu

ndreds of hands-on art classes and music instruction, hosts monthly community events (also free!), provides rental studio space, and promotes the value of art and the arts economy in our region, bolstering the living wage local artists can earn from their work. We continue our work in bringing art instruction to Eastern Oregon through our Artists in Rural Schools program. As a member-based organization, community is at the chore of our work. Our members get fun perks, and they are central to building a thriving and diverse art scene in our rural home.

Art Center East on Friday, June 26, from 6:00–8:00 pm. For ACE’s Inaugural Ceramics Open Exhibit & “The Warmth Within My Shadow” by Jason Hogge 🖼️🏺

All ages are welcome at this free reception. Light refreshments will be available.

ACE staff will announce the winner of the Ceramics Open Exhibit’s People’s Choice Award at the reception.

Xieyi Painting: Bamboo (Age 21+)
Friday, June 26 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm

Discover the beauty of expressive brushwork in this introduction to xieyi painting, a traditional Chinese freehand painting style rooted in gesture, simplicity, and spirit! Teaching Artist Ruth guides students through the foundational strokes used to paint bamboo (a classic subject in Chinese brush painting). This workshop is an opportunity for beginners and returning students to slow down and “transcribe an idea” while creating a unique painting of bamboo.

Bring a favorite beer or wine, if you’d like – ACE provides a non-alcoholic beverage – and enjoy complimentary snacks, meet new people, and explore xieyi painting in a welcoming and fun environment. You’ll take your beautiful painting home at the end of the evening. All supplies included. Please enter the ACE building through the 5th Street door.
