Lonnie the Eclectic Cowboy "Ride tall in the saddle, always shoot straight, and never tell a lie" LTEC

LTEC has been invited to say a few words, stories, songs at the Elks Club in Baker City as some folks remember an old Montana cowboy who has crossed the divide. I figure its mostly a family thing so I won't say anymore...except, what a privilege it is to be asked to share some memories of how it was when old guys like us were growing up and riding tall!

Well, we "got 'er done" at the Snake River Stampede! A good time spent with good friends celebrating the western way we grew up...lotsa folks might not appreciate it, I suppose...or even understand what we are remembering.

I recited a poem that I completed recently entitled, "Daddy Never Owned A Chute" which ends with the phrase, "...where we did castrate!" There was dead silence! It was supposed to be humorous and poignant!

I don't think most folks have any idea what goes into the production of the ground beef (maybe kangaroo...dunno) in their McDonalds Double Burger!

Hmmm...now there's another idea for a poem...."How do you castrate a kangaroo..."?

"Ride tall in the saddle, always shoot straight, and never tell a lie!"

Ok... 4th of July is accomplished, Sunday in the Park is accomplished with my good friend Marilyn (together we are Barefoot 'n Bonafide), my six-week "Beginners Guitar" workshop is going forward, we got past my 79th birthday extravaganza! Now its time to get down to business.

A few of us, under the leadership of Sam Matisse, will be doing more than ten hours of cowboy music, poetry, and unlikely stories for any victims that come into our purview at the Snake River Stampede Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 18, 19, 20 of July. It is nearly on top of us!

I've got lots of pickin' and recitin', and trying to remember words and melodies to practice up for this weekend in Nampa, ID. It'll be great! I'll be worn plumb out! Maybe it'll kill me...but what a way to go! haha

I think we'll be out in the "Horse Event Center" Come and see us if you can!

"Ride tall in the saddle, always shoot straight, and never tell a lie!"

We celebrated my 79th by going to the Columbia River Temple. I went through an endowment session for a relative of mine who passed in 1964. He hasn't had to wait nearly as long as some of the others! I had difficulty staying awake during part of the presentation, but we "got 'er done"...and it was really GREAT!

Most of you friends won't have any idea what I'm talking about...wish I could explain in greater detail. Suffice it to say that temple worship is a vibrant part of life in our family and it brings great joy and happiness to us!

Thank you all for your well wishes and good thoughts. Every day when I wake up on top of the ground, I say, "Thank you Lord for another day...please help me see something useful to do with it".

"Ride tall in the saddle, always shoot straight, and never tell a lie!" seems appropriate. Love ya!

Going through my syllabus and notes I see that I have offered three different programs through the Crossroads Carnegie Art Center in the past. In addition to the six-week Beginners Guitar Workshop starting again tomorrow, I have done a more advanced workshop entitled, From the Beginning, But Not For beginners!

This one is a lot of fun for those that already have fair handful of guitar expertise under their belt and want more! It is intense and wide-ranging and I get an opportunity to share what I have learned about this addictive guitar stuff in my 65 years of playing...and I mean actually getting paid real dollars for banging on a guitar!

I also did a series of workshops entitled, Cowboy Poetry: The Tradition And Legacy. Those that attended last time expressed some interest in a continuing program, so maybe we can do it again. It is a lot of fun "fer sure". All for now.

Well, we got things sorted out at the Crossroads Carnegie Art Center over in Baker city thanks to Melody, the education director at the Center! Excellent! I will be starting the six-week Beginners Guitar Workshop tomorrow (Friday 12th July) so if this is something you have always wanted to do, hurry and give melody a call 541.523.5369. Barefoot & Bonafide is in the Park at 4p Sunday 7th for two hours. We are performing at the Geiser Pullman Park in Baker City for those of you not particularly familiar with our home territory. It is a very pleasant venue with lots of shade and lots of grass, Bring your lawn chair or blanket. I don't know who else is performing this Sunday, but this series goes on all summer! Very enjoyable! Hope you can come! Lonnie

I am chagrined! I had not realized that some guitar students had committed to my six-week "introduction to guitar" at the Crossroads Carnegie Art Center in Baker. So...I didn't show up! How in H*% # do I fix this.? I asked Melody (the education director) to see if she could adjust things around my performance schedule so that I could make it up to the kids. Durn, durn, durn...

I'm headed over to the Saltlick #39 studio at Marilyn's momentarily to set up the big equipment and verify everything is ok for the 4th of July in Haines. Folks may not recognize how much effort it takes to stand up (in our case, sit) and smile and make music like it was the simplest, most spontaneous thing in the world. I have worked through more than a hundred arrangements in the last few weeks to make sure they were up-to-date. Ya gotta love it to invest the effort! I do! Hope to see some of you. I may not be able to remember your names right off 'cause I'm getting to that point in life where my my memory is so good that I can remember things that never even happened...nevertheless, come by and say "hi". Happy 4th of July! Please remember (and teach the young ones) why we celebrate this special day!

HEY ALL YOU HAINES RODEO FANS,
Hope to see you all in Haines on the 4th of July. Lonnie and Marilyn aka BAREFOOT N BONAFIDE, will be playing music in "The Dick Camp" 1880's Park in Haines, Oregon. We start immediately after the parade. Free to the public. We invite you to bring a lawn chair or blanket, sing along, dance, clap your hands, and just enjoy.
Lonnie and Marilyn both have deep roots in the great community of Haines. Lonnie and his family lived there for a good number of years. Marilyn's mother was born in Haines on November 9, 1924. We are pleased to be back again for this great event.
SEE YOU ALL ON THE 4TH IN HAINES!!!!
