Another award announcement, following yesterday’s news.

We are happy to share that Gone to Where by Michelle J. Choi has been named a Finalist in the Young Author category of the 2026 Next Generation Indie Book Awards.

What makes this category especially meaningful is that it recognizes authors under the age of 25. In a world where publishing is often dominated by adults and large industries, it is encouraging to see young creators and independent stories being given space and recognition.

Michelle began this journey not through a publishing company or formal industry path, but through years of creating, exhibiting, writing, and slowly building her own voice through Lumiere Picturebook.

Congratulations, Michelle!!!
Seeing your quiet persistence continue to reach readers and judges across different awards has been deeply meaningful to watch.

We are honored to share that A Gallon of Water by Aiden Woosol Lee has been named a 2026 Eric Hoffer Book Award Children’s Category Finalist.

The Eric Hoffer Book Award is a prestigious international book award that recognizes outstanding books from small, academic, and independent presses across the United States. Its mission is to discover books of exceptional merit that champion independent thought and are often overlooked by mainstream publishing.

Each year, more than 1,000 books are evaluated by independent judges, and fewer than 10% of entries reach the level of Category Finalist.

We are deeply grateful and proud to see Aiden’s work recognized among this year’s finalists.

Last week, our Lumiere Picture Book Team had an unexpected and unforgettable moment at the LA Times Festival of Books.

We spotted Jon Klassen.

That morning, on the way to the venue, Michelle had asked me, “Is he going to be here?” I had been so caught up in Bologna that I couldn’t even bother to check, so I had no idea. We had already missed our chance to see him in San Francisco in May because of everyone’s school schedules, and the disappointment was still fresh.

The moment I saw him, I told the students immediately. They lit up, thrilled and stunned, but then hesitated. None of them had brought his books for signing. Of course, we all own them. We have been reading them since the children were little. But we could not let the moment pass.

So, a little embarrassed but too excited to miss the chance, they grabbed their own books and ran over.

When they came back, they were deeply moved. They kept talking about how kind and sweet he was, how gently he put them at ease, and how warmly he treated their awkward and apologetic hearts.

I really appreciate it. It was an unforgettable meeting with someone we truly admire.

And congratulations once again on the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. It could not be more deserved.

Last weekend, Autry Museum of the American West hosted the reception for the 2026 Student Exhibition Visions of Humanity.

We are proud to share that works by Evelyn and Noelle from our studio were selected for the exhibition. Congratulations to both students on this wonderful achievement.
