Irony Level: 100%
So the folks who can’t hold a rally without screaming, chasing cameras around, or assaulting people are now hosting a “Community Safety for Activists” workshop. Cute. Maybe they’ll hand out mirrors at the door, for reflection and accountability.
Next week they’ll hold one called “Anger Management for Peaceful Protesters” or “How to Yell Respectfully 101.”
And check out this lineup: Knoxville Area Activist Coalition, Indivisible TN BIPOC, United Volunteers of Tennessee, and Southern Resistance Coalition - or as I call it, The League of Overlapping Acronyms. Between KAAC, BIPOC, UVT, and SRC, it sounds less like a safety workshop and more like a band called “Shouting for Safety.” Maybe next time they’ll invite the Reasonable Middle Coalition to open the show. Until then, bring earplugs, because with all those groups in one room, the irony alone might echo.
Knoxville doesn’t need more workshops, it needs a reminder that safety goes both ways. Real community safety means not harassing people who think differently, and not trying to drown out and suppress other voices. Practice what you preach, friends.
Can’t wait for next month’s sequel: "De-escalation for People Who Assault Others With Different Opinions."
