Remember the University of Tennessee fiasco where students were told by professors to use gender pronouns or face consequences? We have now come full circle with a free speech win in Ohio (Tennessee is the same Circuit). The 6th Circuit blocked a school district from forcing students to use “preferred pronouns,” saying schools cannot compel student speech. Classrooms need viewpoint neutrality, not ideology. Other districts should take note.

The sales-tax pitch never matched reality: on a City of Knoxville road where a student was hit today, there were sidewalks on both sides and a marked crosswalk, yet the crash still happened. If we actually want kids safe, stop selling blanket tax hikes and revenue generation (for out of state companies), and start funding targeted fixes where the data shows risk: crossing guards, speed control, signal timing, raised crosswalks, or real school-zone enforcement. Not $47 million that goes to California investors, Art, and greenspaces for the homeless. From what I remember, a City of Knoxville Vision Zero staff member (reducing pedestrian harm) was also part of the pro sales tax PAC and YES! Knoxville. She has been so busy (3 in 1) trying to squeeze the working poor, she failed in the basics today. This accident was 100% preventable with little money. Thank God the student is alive. And thank the lord I can still express all of these opinions.

Update: After a Bearden Middle School student was hit by a bus today, staff were out this afternoon watching the crossing as kids left school.

Knox County Schools has raised its overall budget about 9% for students, but boosted spending by roughly 50% for ELL (English Language Learning) students specifically. At the same time, KCS is putting $70 million into “security” projects like hardened windows, and schools like Cedar Bluff have upgraded crossings.

Bearden Middle still does not have any upgraded crossings on Francis Rd.

This is the same school that recently covered its campus with controversial Bad Bunny political messaging instead of staying focused on the basics: keeping its students safe just getting across the street. The child is doing ok after a hospital visit.

Irony Level: 100%

So the folks who can’t hold a rally without screaming, chasing cameras around, or assaulting people are now hosting a “Community Safety for Activists” workshop. Cute. Maybe they’ll hand out mirrors at the door, for reflection and accountability.

Next week they’ll hold one called “Anger Management for Peaceful Protesters” or “How to Yell Respectfully 101.”

And check out this lineup: Knoxville Area Activist Coalition, Indivisible TN BIPOC, United Volunteers of Tennessee, and Southern Resistance Coalition - or as I call it, The League of Overlapping Acronyms. Between KAAC, BIPOC, UVT, and SRC, it sounds less like a safety workshop and more like a band called “Shouting for Safety.” Maybe next time they’ll invite the Reasonable Middle Coalition to open the show. Until then, bring earplugs, because with all those groups in one room, the irony alone might echo.

Knoxville doesn’t need more workshops, it needs a reminder that safety goes both ways. Real community safety means not harassing people who think differently, and not trying to drown out and suppress other voices. Practice what you preach, friends.

Can’t wait for next month’s sequel: "De-escalation for People Who Assault Others With Different Opinions."

Bearden Middle school girl hit by a bus today. You can see the pink shirt involved in the incident. There is a cross walk there, however, there are no updates to the walk like on Cedar Bluff. The crossing guard was closer to Middlebrook, where there are lights. This is Francis Rd. The school system is spending $70,000,000 on security, but have ignored the simple things that save lives. We are blessed this little girl is ok and recovering from a wrist injury at the hospital. It's also hard to trust what is coming out of Bearden Middle School staff, as KPD has told us the Bearden Middle office staff here have lied to them in the past.

Check out these health department scores!! 100, 100, 100, and the 99 was just BS after talking to the owner about it. This La Herradura drive through Mexican restaurant is one of THE best, if not the best, fast food in Knoxville. Why would you go to Taco Bell, when for a few cents more you get real chicken, real steak and real beef tacos?? The tacos are absolutely amazing. They have a truck on Kingston Pike by Walmart. This drive through is near the West Town Mall on Kingston Pike. And they have a sit down restaurant as well. I have not been to that one. You gotta try it! If you do not like spicy, get the taquitos or quesidilla instead or ask for the sauce on the side. If you have never tried their Horchatta drink, (milk and cinnamon based) get yourself one of those as well!!! OMG. What would I do without this place?
