Mission Statement: Hear Me Roar Theatre Company empowers minoritized peoples through the arts and education opportunities by performing diverse, contemporary narratives highlighting the historically forgotten as well as decentering Eurocentrism and reimagining these works in a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and color-conscious light. We also provide a safe space to devise original works made for and created by these underrepresented communities.

Artists! Creatives! Writers! Lend me your ears!

Are you currently in a lull with your creative writing, whether scripts, poetry, music, or something else? Are you looking to reconnect creatively not only to your mind, but also body and soul? HMR is here to help!

Join us the weekend of October 16th-17th for our Ritually Refocus and Reconnect Writing Workshop! Our goal is to help you ground yourself with exercises, tools, and tricks to realign your mind, body and soul with your work.

We will also provide a welcome package with gifts that encourage reconnecting and growth. Sign up by the end of the day on October 1st to receive the package prior to the weekend of the program!

Hear Me Roar Theatre presents, “Ritually Refocus & Reconnect to the Script,” a writing workshop taking place on September 17th to October 17th! Over the course of six Saturdays, participants will take a deep dive into a written work in the medium of their choice, and led through ritually refocusing and reconnecting to the writing process through the body, mind, and soul. The work can be finished or at the beginning stages. Facilitated by the Hear Me Roar team and other experienced guest writers and artists, this workshop is open to everyone with a focus on being a safe space for q***r and BIPOC writers. The cost is $60 for Students and $90 for all other adults with payment plans available. Submissions are open until August 23rd! Submit your work/idea by August 23rd for a chance to be selected for this workshop as spots are limited.

Meet ALEAH VASSELL, playing Player Two!

Aleah is a Canadian born American artist produced by two lovely Jamaicans who resides in both Knoxville, TN and Dayton, Ohio. While being Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Hear Me Roar, Aleah is also a Teaching Artist with Chickenshed NYC and a 2020-2021 Poet Fellow with The 5th Woman Poetry organization. She is also workshopping her new musical, MFAs: A Musical For Actors in School, with plans to produce after the pandemic. She holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Samford University and an MFA in Acting from University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Favorite credits include: Bunny in Detroit ‘67 (Clarence Brown Theatre, Deloris in Sister Act (Charleston Stage). www.aleahvassell.com

Get To Know The Cast of “Well Intentioned White People”
Meet the playwright, IMANI VAUGHN-JONES, who is playing Nia!

Imani Vaughn-Jones is an actress and writer thriving in Atlanta, GA with her husband Daniel and their fur son, Walter. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing and English with a concentration in screenwriting from Southern New Hampshire University. Her 10-minute digital play 'A Single F*cking Retweet' was produced by Purdue University as part of their Theatre, Virtually festival. Her play 'Well-Intentioned White People' was featured as part of the Graham Martin Unexpected Play Festival and will be premiering off-Broadway in 2021 as a part of the Broadway Bound Theatre Festival.

Previous TV acting credits include Marvel's The Gifted, Lee Daniel's Star, and Black Lightning. Stage credits include A Raisin in the Sun and Hamlet (Park Square Theatre), Luna Gale (Underdog Theatre), and A Wrinkle In Time (The Rose Theater). As a writer, her work focuses on the themes of race, power, trust, and relationships. She seeks to both write and perform in works that bring honest yet rarely depicted truths to the stage and screen.
