I don't know how to live in a world where my daddy, my grandfathers, and Dolly Parton aren't here anymore...but I guess I'll just keep painting and trying to not confuse my cup of ambition with paint water.

The hardest part for me, about being an artist, is that I'm just naturally deep. I cannot do shallow, performative relationships. I don't really care about the weather. The weather doesn't matter in a cave, and I want to go spelunking in your soul. If I hit a cavern guarded by your darkest gargoyle, my apologies! What's the secret password?

I snapped this photo at Pepo’s Burrito Bar #2 in Athens last week as I was passing though from working on the mural. I thought it looked so picturesque and tropical, though there are definitely NOT turquoise waters on Congress Parkway, it looked like it 😁

The beauty of art is that we can just pretend.

Sometimes I take photos hoping I can turn them into a painting one day. I don't have a lot of time right now but I can still sneak in a sketch here & there. I couldn't figure out what I wanted to paint, and remembered I had this!

Started it at 8:20, ate dinner, finished it by 9:30

Maybe one day I can render it a little more, make it bigger or something.

"These are bloopers. The blooper reel." πŸ˜‚ Bragging on Jessica Lane for a min

This artist had a birthday this week and I just want to give a shout-out! (I have been meaning to for a while but was struggling to put all the words together).

The extreme amount of details in this mural required me to bring some help aboard. We flowed together so well, that I think we both added a touch or two to each of the animals on this ark. We had one goal in mind: get it done. So we didn't mind working right on top of one another's progress!

Jessica and I have worked together on a few occasions. I met her at Fullers Frame Shop where I saw that she was an excellent help. Probably the first time we worked side-by-side was when we were cleaning up paint from her homeschool art class together in a hurry (being an experienced classroom art supply explosion cleaner upper myself), we were able to keep a level head and get it done, while laughing and keeping a positive spirit the whole time. On another occasion, she came to teach art classes when I ran Studio 3:16. She did great. When I needed help completing a mural, she stepped in. And I knew based off of her past performance (communication, showing up, talent), that she would be a wonderful help. And she absolutely did not prove me wrong. She was there when she said she would be (even happily staying over when she didn't have to), she worked at a fair price, offered up her own supplies, she had a wonderful attitude and energy to go around. She is not afraid to say if she doesn't know something, and she puts her best foot forward to learn/get it done. She has a balanced giving spirit, and most importantly, she keeps Christ first. Everything she does has Christ at the forefront, and it is a pleasure talking to her about God while working.

I cannot thank her enough and I recommend her for projects whole heartedly.

Thank you for being a great help, a great person, and a great friend Jessica!

When Facebook gives you a gold star πŸ˜‚ it's been a while since I've been called "emerging talent" I thought I was pretty established FB, but thanks for pushing me further

πŸŽ‰ I earned the emerging talent badge this week, recognizing me for creating engaging content that sparks an interest among my fans!

It was fun being "in high school" again for the weekend 😊 this mural totaled 16 hours of painting over the course of 2 days.

The person who commissioned it wanted a loose/sketch type of style and chose these literary books & themes.

I hope the kids smile when they see it tomorrow!

(All the credit to the teacher for wanting to inspire the students to read though, how awesome is that!)

I have so much content to catch up on. So much has happened in the past couple of months! I just put my head down and took things day by day, that's all we can do sometimes. There isn't always time to post everything we do.

Well I'm in luck, because as I'm moving out of a season of hard work and into a period of rest, the tear in my hip cartlidge is forcing me into slowing down for a bit. That's the way of life! If you don't slow down, your body will force you to at some point. But ask any good athlete and they know all about work/rest/recovery...it's a cycle, not an end.

Just a few art things that I've done in the past few months, but haven't posted much about:

πŸ’« Taught Starry Night at Arrowmont to a group of 5-6 year olds and their parents

🎨 Attended the Dogwood Arts Synergy exhibit where mine and my daughter's work was displayed

🌊 Completed a large mural project (had to enlist the help of a very awesome friend!)

🌳 Taught Happy Trees at Arrowmont to a group of 7 adults living with disabilities

πŸ“ Finished/submitted my grad school application for my Master's program

πŸ–Œ Made 2 new instructor copy paintings

And just being a mom of 2 kids in between. Like the kind of mom-ing where youre making a cake at 7am for a forgotten about 4H competition, and theres a rehearsal tonight too. With a torn hip and a 2 year old propped on on it (nbd) πŸ˜…

In the middle of it all I'm reallllly trying to develop a green thumb this spring but I just simply dont have one. Willing to trade art skills for gardening skills.

Yall will see me on crutches sometime when i get this surgery. Probably still finding a way to teach art
