This was one of those pivotal pieces for me back when I painted it for solo show. 🔥

I was under extreme pressure 💎 to meet a deadline, so, naturally we find ways to be efficient without sacrificing quality.

I leaned heavy into thick texture to stand in for literal detail, and let a lot of the toned panel come through to fill out the comp with GLOW. 🔥

I SAY 🧐 If you need to improve, or elevate your style, just commit to a show and procrastinate most of the time that you should be creating 😬

You’re almost done… and you see just one spot. Or ten. THAT NOBODY ELSE WILL CARE ABOUT, but you keep going anyway 😂

TRUTH IS, after 70-80% we’re in diminishing returns territory, PULL THE PLUG. 🔌

I tell myself that all the time, it’s even written on my easel, staring back at me in between layers as a constant reminder, and while I’ve gotten much MUCH better at not overworking pieces, it still happens. 💀 not in the sense that it ruins the art, but strictly in the sense that the time would be better spent elsewhere.

But here’s the upside: being raised with parents who were hyper-critical in some respects gave me an obsessive eye that translates beautifully into detail and depth. Hardship gave me a tool, and I get to turn it into art. 🎨

Growing up, I was a bit of a misfit. So, I often got lost in my interests. Drawing was my go-to because it made me feel accomplished and valuable.
