Wishing you a very merry Christmas & a new year full of possibilities and joy from Sable Fox Studio! 🕊️ This year has been stretching and joyful, painting so many of your sweet puppies and exploring the beauty of the Smokey Mountains painting plein air for the first time. I look forward with anticipation to a fresh season in my new farmhouse studio out in the country, tucked away in the mountains. Already planning a countryside garden and baby ducks are in the future!🦆 I can’t wait to share with you all in the new year!

Plein air at the barn on the first day of summer. I’ve never painted horses from life before, it was truly an illuminating challenge that tested my memory and patience with each swish of the tail or adjustment of ears. Of course the paint horse came over and knocked over my easel out of curiosity, and the grass stains just added character to the piece. My goal is to try again this summer, leaning into not only using photographs and iPads in the studio to help capture their elegant beauty. Shot on 35mm Kodak. 🎞

Today is the one year anniversary of Sable Fox Studio! 🥂🕊 What a more fitting way to celebrate then to hand deliver a portrait of the elegant and sweet Lucy to her new home. Tears come to my eyes as I remember every encouraging word from a friend, the trust and support of each new client, and the cheering on from my precious family. You all have been so supportive and encouraging every step of the way, thank you for joining me on this new venture. Here’s to many more years of paint on canvas, honoring the precious life of your cherished pets!

The honeysuckle just began to bloom all around me in this misty valley, and every morning a breeze carries in the sweet scent of their blooms through my open studio window. The gift of this lush, beautiful planet is never lost on me, my never ending source of inspiration and creativity in my practice. May you spend some blissful hours out in nature today on this Earth Day, it’s always time well spent. 🕊🤍
