I have several leftover rounds from a project. I have been using them to test stain colors, but I’m sure there are other ways to put them to use. Any ideas?

The final outcome of a project doesn't always match your original vision. This project began as two plaid-patterned end grain cutting boards. We really liked the pattern and needed an end table, so I decided to change course and get creative. I built a walnut base using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, then repurposed one of the cutting boards as the tabletop, securing it with figure-8 fasteners to allow for natural wood movement.

Whether you run into a design hiccup or just get a burst of inspiration, being able to pivot from your original idea lets you turn unexpected moments into a creative win.

If you’re working on a tricky or custom woodworking project, making a prototype is a total game-changer. It lets you play around with your ideas, catch any problems before you waste good wood, and just makes everything go smoother. You can test out different ways to build stuff without stressing about messing up, and if you’re making something for someone else, they get to see what it’ll look like before you go all in. In the end, it just makes your projects turn out way better. I typically create my prototypes on MDF because it's cheap and easy to work with. Here’s a prototype of a horse race board game that I'll have for sale on my site soon.

Let's see your prototypes!
