I’ve been going through some boxes of photos, trying to find a few more of my early spinning and crocheting days, and came across this one. Tim was my old bf, ( another one that didn’t work out!)who I had met when in college at Tulane in New Orleans. After I had lived briefly in the Chicago area, close to where my family had relocated from Larchmont, NY, Tim and I lived for awhile in a cottage owned by his grandparents on Shavehead Lake in Michigan. That is where I was living when I took a two day workshop from a nearby spinner, and fell in love with spinning my own yarn to crochet with. It is also where I fell in love with flea markets and auctions. Madly in love, with a passion that continues to this day. ( Unlike the romance!😂😬)This was the late 60’s, early 70’s. Nearby was the , which covered many acres of vendor booths, a live auction of both antiques and livestock( pigs, as I recall), and includes an Amish restaurant with memorable buckwheat pancakes, homemade maple syrup, and sausages. Heaven, which still goes on to this day!! Anyway, I bought this spinning wheel, my first, at the live auction, for very little money.I don’t remember how much, but I do remember that I didn’t have much, so it had to be an amazing deal! It had old orange paint on it, and my mother helped me take the old paint off and refinish it. It was a little wobbly, but it worked, and was a step up from the drop spindle I’d been using. I used this wheel for quite some time, until I eventually upgraded to an Ashford, which was more efficient. It sure was pretty, though!!❤️
