Another bird has flown to a new home. This one's a blue warbler. I want to share my appreciation of the art collector who took home my framed, hand embellished, limited edition, numbered, giclee print on watercolor paper, "All Puffed Up In Autumn"! I am also grateful to Blackbird Cafe for supplying me with wall space and a well-fed, satisfied audience of viewers who can take in my art while dining, and sometimes choose to take it home.

This is print number one in the series of 25, as you can see near the signature. Because I have carefully added details or colors or changed something about the original composition, each of these is a unique and one-of-a-kind piece of artwork, while remaining more affordable than an original painting. I still have 24 available, all slightly (or more than slightly) different, so let me know if this art speaks to you. They are not currently on any of my websites (oops), but you can get them directly from me, at Studio Moonshadow.

Sold, on my older website, at Fine Art America/Pixels! Thank you to the Denver art lover who chose to purchase a print of my painting, Demon Cats. This is an old one, painted over a decade ago.

The original is based on a poem written by a talented 11 year old, and was donated to Inspired Art Denver, for an auction benefiting America Scores, an organization that provided a writing and soccer program for area young people.

Demon Cats
Murkiness fogs the room as I'm surrounded by cats.
They grow hidden, immoral wings, and they start to s**t.
Their ruffling wings bloom out bulky and bold.
They scratch, they hiss, they start to dance.
They spin and swirl out colors, a line of black, a smudge of blue, and a splash of red fills the room.
The demon cats hug a breath and inhale the cold.
Soon the sun begins to rise.
Do you believe I saw that?
Believing what you feel, letting your imagination blow.
I promise you, if you did, your personality will start to grow.

Somebody is going to take home this original framed painting, August 14th!

What is 100 for $200?

One of Center For The Arts Evergreen's favorite events of the year, 100 for $200 features donated works from local artists. 100 works of art in a variety of mediums are collected and exhibited in early August. On August 14, the night of the event, ticket holders peruse the gallery, making note of artworks that excite them. When their number is drawn, they’ll get to choose from the pieces still available to take home.

This is a high-energy, lively event, with suspense, and surprises. It's also an opportunity to take home a valuable original piece of art at an amazing price, while supporting your local arts organization, and, it makes a wonderful, memorable date night!

Look for my original watercolor and gouache painting, "The River Has Its Destination", from my birds in trees series, beautifully matted and framed by Ken Juliano of Adobe Creek Framing, in Kittredge. It is on display now, on the south wall of the CAE gallery, where you can pick up your art catalog and begin mapping out and ranking your favorites.

SELECTION EVENT: 100 for $200
Ticketed Selection Event: Friday, August 14 from 5 – 8 pm

"Treehugger"

In late May, we viewed the craziest show, in our backyard. We were photographing buffalo babies for future paintings when we received a text from our neighbors. Two bears were in our backyard, one large cinnamon, one smaller black. This pair of hooligans, and the mischief they bring, is known throughout our neighborhood and beyond in the Kittredge area. They travel together, (or at least, they used to).

We rushed home to see for ourselves and what ensued was about a three hour contest of wills. The cinnamon bear had the black one backed out onto a branch, so far, we feared it would fall. They snarled and postured, clawing and shredding the bark, breaking branches, playing with our daughter's swing, sleeping, climbing up and down..... We watched it all from the surprising proximity and safety of our upper deck, sometimes eye to eye with the larger bear, who would shimmy down and leave, only returning to once again the threaten the smaller bear, although eventually, after full dark, he did not return, and the black bear made its escape. We do not know what provoked the disagreement, and we have not seen them here since.

I had the opportunity to get many reference photos of the cinnamon bear, while the black one remained harder to see, hiding at the tip of branch. I was excited to paint this critter, but first I needed to finish some foxes, so that took a while. Naturally, there will be more bear paintings forthcoming!

"Treehugger", now available, was completed yesterday, and I'm planning to varnish it later today. 16x20x1.5 watercolor on canvas, with painted edges, varnished to protect against harm from UV and moisture.
