WORKSPACE EVOLUTION!! Two years ago today I used a vacation day from work (vacation plans cancelled due to pandemic and had to use them or lose them) and decided to get my paint/craft area set up. Up until then, I would pull out a few TV trays and paint while sitting in my living room.
The dining “area” of my small one bedroom apartment was a catch-all place for “stuff”. I figured I’d paint more (and enjoy it more) if I had a dedicated space. The thought of getting all my stuff out, then putting it back later was enough to keep me from painting quite a few times.
And I was right! It worked. If all I had to do was get a cup of water and sit down to work… Easy Peasy!!
My space has evolved several times over the past two years and the second photo is how it looks tonight. Yes, there’s still piles of “stuff”. Lots of stuff 🤦🏼♀️and of course not enough space for all that stuff. And not enough work space, but it does work very well for me. So you wonder what’s the problem then?
Well, I’ve got so much crap (ok, STUFF 🥴) to paint…. Molded stones, acrylic blanks, Santorini stones, bisque pottery, wooden boxes, colored glass vases and bottles… you get the picture.
Plus I’ve got acrylic paints, UV nail foils, glitter, special effects paint, mica powder, hi-build resin, glow in the dark powders, color shift and iridescent pigments, air dry clay…. You get the picture.
And my biggest road block is my mind. I have so many plans and ideas that I have no idea what I really want to do. So I start projects (usually still in testing phases) and then bounce over to a new idea. See those neon rocks that are currently on my desk? Those are eventually going to be multi-textured, mixed media spiders. What can I say!? My dedicated workspace has created a scatterbrained, distracted monster 😂 Sorry for the long post… (in the last decade, between all of my various craft projects, I also wrote a book 😂) It is on Amazon if you’re interested (The Pitchfork Tattoo, by Ally Cabella… hey, why not, right!?!)
