Will the next quarterly magazine include an obituary for this wistful actor under the stars whom we lost in February 2026? Their publicity coordinator told me, "I would be happy to keep you updated should the staff plan to include an obituary for Prudence Wright Holmes," of Sister Act, Kingpin, the Ballad of Buster Scruggs and more. Nothing yet. Stay tuned, I guess. https://actorsunderthestars.com/prudence-wright-holmes/ Comment, follow, feel good.
Prudence Wright Holmes, who directed our production of βπΌππ
ππ πππ πͺπππππβ passed away recently. We are saddened by our loss.
Prudence was not only part of our UT family, to me she was also an educating influence early on in my acting career. Her patience and no-nonsense approach, when I attended her βMonologue Detectiveβ seminar, was the first sign of how much she cared about her art, and how happy she was to share that appreciation with others.
Over the years, I would occasionally chat with her before an AEA audition or see her at a SAG-AFTRA event and she was always working on something:
π 4 Broadway plays
π¬ 10 Films
π 14 Plays written by her (8 solos shows).
She worked with luminaries in the business: Whoopi Goldberg, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep, Maggie Smith and many more. She performed all over the US at theatres and colleges.
As a playwright, she mostly created solo shows because she wanted to honor historical women that she admired or was curious about. I had the pleasure of seeing a few of those performances and enjoying the moments she chose to highlight in the lives of these real women.
She relished the work of being a performing artist: "I'm grateful I have been able to fulfill my dream of becoming a successful New York City actor." (in her own words on her website). We were fortunate to work with her and will miss her. Prudence.
