In this class, we’ll strip away the intimidation of traditional music theory and explore how rhythm, melody, chords, and structure work together to create the songs you love. Whether you’re a songwriter or composer looking to add to your composition toolbelt or just an avid music fan who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the science behind your favorite tunes, come and experience the living, breathing wonders of music in this approachable six-week course.
The KPCU Song Lab is a guided, collaborative workshop led by local musician Drea Marilyn that’s designed for songwriters and musicians to bring their works-in-progress into a live, communal environment. Part feedback session, part low-stakes acoustic jam, the Song Lab is where your songs find their missing pieces. Need a fresh set of ears on a bridge? Or perhaps you’ve always wondered what your piano ballad would sound like with a lead guitarist. The Song Lab is your space to experiment, iterate, and play.
