NEW GUEST ANNOUNCEMENT! Please welcome Syr to ENC Renaissance Faire! SYR (pronounced “sire”) is redefining Celtic Folk Rock by taking inspiration from Celtic history, stories and myths, to create powerful songs with themes of battle, love, loss, and victory. Their high-energy performance and foot-stomping style has become a welcome addition to festivals and events across the U.S.
Front-man Kyle MacCallum founded SYR on the belief that the rich heritage of the Celtic Nations could be brought to life in a contemporary musical style that appeals to all ages.
Originally formed as a casual Celtic band playing drinking songs in pubs and taverns, SYR spent several years entertaining crowds with traditional fare, and while it was great fun, Kyle soon felt called to take the band in a new direction.
“I wanted to perform the songs I had been writing instead of covers, and I wanted to get serious about the band and its future,” he explains. “That shift started with the release of our first album. Since then, we’ve evolved a lot, both in sound and lineup, so we often say the current version of SYR really began with The Winter King in 2017.”
“SYR’s music is heavily influenced by Celtic history – especially in the Celtic people’s resistance to Roman invasion,” Kyle adds. “We look for ancient themes that still resonate with a modern audience and then bring them to life in our own musical style.”
Often described as cinematic, SYR’s music is an energetic fusion of Celtic Folk sounds, with Acoustic Metal influences, driven by vivid storytelling in both English and Gàidhlig (Scottish Gaelic). Following the success of The Winter King and Sentinel, the band has released volume three of the trilogy in September 2026: Ruin.
Syr will be with us on the second weekend (April 17-18, 2027) of the ENC Renaissance Faire. You can get tickets for the second weekend or both weekends now! Don’t forget that we have onsite camping available!
