Smart Kinston Foundation

Smart Kinston Foundation The smART Kinston Foundation is transforming Lenoir County by rebuilding the regional economy with a focus on art, design and sustainability.

The mission of the smART Kinston Foundation is to continue the growth of Kinston's creative economy. We aim to do this by bringing in artists to live and work in the Arts & Cultural District, by connecting them to downtown and by making them part of the larger Kinston community. But we can't make this effort successful on our own! We want to engage you - the artists, the neighbors, the community. We want to hear from you.

🐉🔥Are you ready to roar and stomp and even breathe fire? Join us next Thursday, May 28th at 4PM to celebrate the new crosswalk at the corner of Mitchell & North Sts. Folks of all ages are welcome to make a dragon-themed craft, participate in a ceremonial march across the street, and stay for a dragon-themed storytime led by Neuse Regional Library!

Ps. Thanks to the city for the special bonus crosswalk signs!

☀️Jamil Burton and Maximillian Mozingo got an early start on the Pearson Park crosswalk project this morning (with a little assist from a young painting enthusiast). The first coats of the glow-in-the-dark paint have been applied!

They will work throughout the weekend, so use caution in the area. And we hope you will join us for an official ribbon cutting celebration in the upcoming weeks!

💕This Downtown Kinston Revitalization project is made possible by a Grassroots grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. The Grassroots grant funding process is facilitated by our own Community Council for the Arts-Kinston, NC.

🖼️In case you missed ‘em, here’s the 2026 Paint the Town submissions! We will bring this event back next year, so be thinking about what spots should be showcased. Thanks to Brandon Potter for taking the time to photograph these for the archives.

👀And keep your eyes peeled for another collaborative event with Art 105 Kinston, NC & Community Council for the Arts-Kinston, NC this fall!

📸Did you miss your chance to get your photo taken at BBQ Fest? We will be at the Lenoir County Farmers Market for their 4th of July festivities, so mark your calendar!

This project is meant to be mobile and ever-changing. We might even add something to these panels in the interim 👀

☂️A little rain doesn’t stop BBQ from happening (SO GO GET SOME!) but it does prevent moving the Paint the Town finalists’ paintings out on stage for an awards ceremony. Congratulations to our winners and thanks to everyone who participated! See you next year!
