Creativity Shell The Creativity Shell on a mission to use creative trades to educate and inspire the next generation!

MISSION
The Creativity Shell is a registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization on a mission to use creative trades to educate and inspire the next generation of makers. Our organization teaches sewing/textile arts classes to students in public libraries, schools and shelters that rescue children from homelessness and human trafficking. Sewing/textile arts classes are designed to educate and inspire children by teaching them essential life and practical skills. OUR BELIEF
There is no “one size fits all” method to education! As the use of technology continues to increase throughout the education system, the value of trades decrease. At the Creativity Shell, we believe that teaching our children the trades we know and use today will help them continue to thrive as a generation of makers instead of a generation of buyers. SENSE OF POSSIBILITY
Children are the leaders of the next generation which makes them earth’s most precious resources. MUTUAL RESPONSIBILITY
As adults, we can positively engage our children by understanding there is no “One size fit’s all” method to education. CREATIVE LEARNING
Children should have exposure to different learning methods. As they grow, they will naturally gravitate into the methods which best fits their learning style. There are many who view creative trades such as sewing or woodworking as a last resort to education…we see it as a complimentary addition. When children are free to explore the many talents around them, this helps to create well rounded children who can use their trades as an employment opportunity or a therapeutic hobby. POSITIVE INTERACTIONS
When we work together with other childcare organizations, we can all get to know and understand the different children that cross our paths, and help embrace or direct them to other paths along their journey into adulthood.

We’re going back to where we started.

The Creativity Shell was built on the belief that creativity can help people heal. Long before many of the programs you see here today, we were bringing sewing into shelters and other spaces to work with survivors and vulnerable communities.

This October, we’re bringing that work home and opening our studio doors to women who are survivors of assault, domestic violence, abuse and trafficking.

Twice a month, during the quiet evening hours at our studio, we will host Sewing with Survivors, a beginner-friendly sewing class where women can come in, sit at a machine, learn to sew, create and simply have a little time for themselves.

There is no expectation to share your story. You don't have to tell us what happened. You don't have to explain why you're there.

Just come sew.

Registration is FREE, and machines, fabrics and supplies are provided. A $45 donation is suggested for those who are able to contribute, but it is not required to attend.

These evening classes are for women ages 18 and older, and no children under 18 will be permitted during the program. We want to maintain a quiet, comfortable environment specifically for the women attending.

If we discover there is a need for a similar program for younger survivors, we will work toward creating one for them too.

If you know a woman who might benefit from Sewing with Survivors, please share this with her. You may never know who in your life needs to see that there is a seat waiting for her.

Our doors are open.
Our machines are ready.
Come mend your seams with us.

Healing happens here.

It’s National Sewing Month! If you teach sewing classes, tag your business in the comments!

This month, we’re celebrating the creativity, confidence, and career possibilities that begin with a single stitch.

Through our initiative, we’re working to introduce 1 million young people to sewing over the next 10 years and help them discover pathways into fashion design, textile arts, quilting, costume design, manufacturing, and so much more.

Sewing education can start anywhere: in schools, libraries, studios, community centers, and local fabric stores. Every class, mentor, and opportunity helps build the next generation of creative makers and industry professionals.

Do you know a store that teaches sewing classes? Tag them below so we can celebrate their work and help more families find opportunities to learn!

Together, we can pass these skills forward one stitch, one student, and one community at a time.

We’re not going to count our chickens before they hatch… but once they do, our homeschool students will get to help raise these little babies!

We are SO excited to add a chicken coop to the Creativity Shell! Our students will get hands-on experience caring for chickens, learning where our food comes from, and understanding the responsibility that goes into raising animals.

Gardening, cooking, life skills, and now chickens, our homeschool program is growing in more ways than one!

We have 3 spots available in this class that starts Monday!

We’re excited to share that Chef Alex is back at the Creativity Shell and ready to get our A+ Cooking students back into the kitchen!

We hope you’ll join us on Mondays from 5:30 PM–6:30 PM for the Fall 2026 edition of our A+ Cooking Classes, designed to give adaptive and neurodiverse students opportunities to learn, create, build confidence, and develop valuable life skills.

This fall, we’re growing beyond the kitchen.. literally! In addition to learning how to prepare recipes and build cooking skills, students will be introduced to gardening, food sourcing, and growing and harvesting their own food. Our goal is to help students understand the journey from seed to garden to kitchen while developing greater independence and confidence along the way.

Parents and aides are welcome to attend and assist their student.

We’re looking forward to another amazing semester with Chef Alex and can’t wait to start cooking and growing together!
