When did you start getting into theatre?
My parents took me to Proctors to see “Peter Pan” when I was 3 years old and I’ve been hooked ever since!

How many shows have you been in?
Oh goodness, too many to count! Somewhere around 30, I think. I started performing when I was 6 years old in “Cinderella” at Coleman High School. Then when you start counting backstage work…it all adds up very quickly!

What is your favorite role you’ve ever played?
Irene Molloy in "Hello, Dolly!" or Judy Turner in "A Chorus Line," for sure.

What is a role you’ve always wanted to play?
If I ever got to play Dawn in “Waitress” I think I would collapse in sheer joy.

What is your favorite improv game?
There are so many gems…but I love “Why Were You Late?” - the shenanigans that ensue are always so silly!

What was the first musical you ever saw?
“Peter Pan” at Proctors.

What was the first musical you saw on Broadway?
“Legally Blonde” for my 13th birthday.

What was your favorite musical growing up?
“Peter Pan” was my go-to (the 1960 Mary Martin telecast, of course). I also loved “Godspell,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” and the Rodgers & Hammerstein “Cinderella."

What is your all time favorite show?
“Waitress,” “Hello, Dolly!,” & “Big Fish” all come to mind at the current moment, but man is it hard to choose...

Why is theatre beneficial to learn about?
At its very foundation, practicing theatrical skills promotes creativity, self-confidence, collaboration, and communication which are all skills necessary to succeed in life. By learning how to listen and make choices on the stage, we can take those skills into our own lives and become conscientious, empathetic members of society - all while having fun!

What is your favorite thing about Broadway Bound Musical Theatre Workshop?
The laughs are endless!! How often do you get an excuse to geek out on musical theatre and just be SILLY with your friends, both old and new?!

When did you start getting into theatre?
I don’t remember a time when I WASN’T into theater! When I was 4 I started tap class, at 5 I played Michael in “Peter Pan” at Coleman High School, and at 6 I started Broadway Bound workshops with our very own Lisë Hopson. I haven’t stopped performing since!

How many shows have you been in?
I stopped counting at 40 shows in 2015… so carry the 1, and — I’m an actor, I was never good at math!

What is your favorite role you’ve ever played
Good god- that’s like picking your favorite child! Some of my favorites have been Cornelius Hackl in “Hello, Dolly!,” Bert in “Mary Poppins,” and the deliciously evil Miss Trunchbull in “Matilda!”

What is a role you’ve always wanted to play?
Finch in “How To Succeed in Business…” and Peter Panning in the yet to be written musical of the movie “Hook.”

What is your favorite improv game?
“Party Quirks” is always a hoot whether you are playing the host or one of the “quirky” guests!

What was the first musical you ever saw?
The first musical I really remember seeing was an incredible touring production of “Singin’ In The Rain” at UPAC!

What was the first musical you saw on Broadway?
“Mary Poppins”

What was your favorite musical growing up?
I mean who didn’t love “Annie?” I loved JRB’s “13, The Musical,” but most of all I LOVED geeking out over the classics like “Hello, Dolly!,” “Funny Girl,” “Kiss Me, Kate,” “Gypsy,” and so many more…

What is your all time favorite show?
Top three, in no order: “Into The Woods,” “Hello, Dolly!,” and “Falsettos”

Why is theatre beneficial to learn about?
Anne Bogart describes theatre as a “gym for the soul.” Whether in the audience or onstage, it has the power to “exercise the imagination, empathy, creative thinking, patience and tolerance.” I think that says it all, not to mention it’s pretty great fun too!

What is your favorite thing about Broadway Bound Musical Theatre Workshop?
I love every moment of each week: the nervous introductions on the first day, the hilarious improv games, the cramming of lines, lyrics, and choreography, the break throughs and sometimes even the breakdowns, and of course the great friendships that are made!

🎼 MEET THE TEACHERS 🎭

Introducing our founder and program director, Lisë Landis Hopson!

Get to know more about her below!

When did you start getting into theatre?
I fell in love with musical theatre in grade school, probably when I saw productions of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and "Gypsy." Then when my older brother went to high school I was absolutely mesmerized by their productions of "West Side Story" and "South Pacific" and determined that I had to be in his school's shows!

How many shows have you been in?
Good heavens! I have never counted. At least 45.

What is your favorite role you’ve ever played?
Loved playing Luisa (The Girl) in "The Fantasticks" and Amy in "Company".

What is a role you’ve always wanted to play?
Mame in "Mame"!!

What is your favorite improv game?
"Stand Up, Sit Down, Lie Down".... or "Party Quirks"... or "Beans". Improv is hysterical, and so much fun to do!

What was the first musical you ever saw?
When I finished watching the movie "Carousel" on TV at age 9, I ran upstairs and cried my eyes out in the bathroom. I was so moved by it! Then and there I fell in love with musicals.

What was the first musical you saw on Broadway?
"1776" at age 16.

What was your favourite musical growing up?
Anything by Rodgers and Hammerstein or Lerner and Lowe. I loved the movie "My Fair Lady.”

What is your all time favorite show?
That's like asking what's your favorite food - there are so many and they are so different - and so many are delicious! It's too hard to rate them... I have had the joy of directing over 60 musicals... I love the profound experience that is "Les Miserables" and the frothy fare of "Anything Goes"... and all manner in between!

Why is theatre beneficial to learn about?
Participating in theatre teaches so much and expands one's horizons immeasurably. I could write a treatise on this subject - and have!

What is your favorite thing about Broadway Bound Musical Theatre Workshop?
The energy and joy the kids bring to the workshop - and the incredible creativity of my colleagues!
