Another progress shot. I had an afternoon in a rented studio. I started by mixing colors to get a palette that would be a cohesive. Though I may grab another color or two in the process, I try to stick to these limited colors. Work inspired by a visit to a botanical garden. Not my usual subject, but I am always looking to push my art experience while keeping my personal voice. Work on a large full piece of primed Arches 140 pound watercolor paper.

I recovering from a medical procedure- thus I lost yesterday totally, today I am better but still not up to par energy wise. My body went into mini shock mode I think. - so I used it as an eBay listing day. I have been destashing my collection on there, helping pay the bills and clean the attic studio space bit by bit. I probably make pennies, because I am curious, and spend much time investigating the history of people places and things. I learned about about a town in North Dakota that had a population of 1300 when the postcard was sent, and is now down to 91, businesses on the east side of Manhattan that sold quackery medicine marketed to parents for their sickly children which later was that it contained poisons and opiates. (like the Paragoric that my mother would give me as a child. I remember loving the sedative effects but didn't make the connection until I read about it!) . Saw the term "social hikers" in regards to people to hiked in groups and took photos in the wild. I learn about processes in printing and about printers. It is all so fascinating. If you are curious - take a look at the little stories on the photos I posted. :)

I found a 1938 Art Ed teachers magazine from my thesis days- and it was missing the cover- depleting its value. So, I cut it up! Why waste it?! I then pasted all of the papers onto a 24x36 canvas as a base for a piece. Where it goes, I do not know, but I had fun re=purposing the paper. Stay tuned for part 2- probably some time next week!

Renting studio space once a week has been the best idea. I treat it as a mini residency, pay for it in advance, and make sure that I show up and do the work. I put in 2 days last week, and worked 6 hours on this piece. It probably still has another 4-6 (or more) to go...that remains to be seen depending upon the direction that it heads. But it feels so good to be back and work!! Stay tuned.
