These colorful signs in Kings Island’s Soak City appear to be the last remnants of the water park’s former identity Boomerang Bay. The Australian theme was dropped following the 2011 season.

Soak City originally opened as Waterworks in 1989. Prior to the 2004 season, the water park was rebranded Crocodile Dundee’s Boomerang Bay, after the popular Paramount film series of the same name. Following Cedar Fair’s acquisition of the Paramount Parks, all movie references were removed and the park simply became Boomerang Bay for the 2007 season. Following the 2011 season, it was rebranded into Soak City.

Just picked these up tonight. A good FB Marketplace offer and ended up having had a nice chat with a gentleman who worked for many years for Tomart (longtime publisher of Disneyana Pin Trading Price Guides). He also worked for the Disney Store and had some great stories to tell!

Guess I’m in the pin trading club now 😂

Just got these classics delivered today. Written by longtime amusement park historian Jim Futrell, these books were published between 2002 and 2008 and cover numerous parks across six different states.

Jim Futrell is the longtime historian of the National Amusement Park Historical Association, having contributed to NAPHA’s Chronicle magazine and appeared in many TV documentaries on the amusement park industry. Looking forward to giving these a read!

I’m usually not a fan of spinning rides, but I made an exception for Spring Fling during my visit to Kentucky Kingdom yesterday. The Intamin swing ride originally operated at Kings Island from 1973 through 1990 as Flying Dutchman. After it was moved to Kentucky Kingdom in 1991, its location was replaced by the original entrance for Adventure Express, and later by Sol Spin in 2023. I actually enjoyed this ride and ended up riding it a few times!

Very sad news. Clermont Steel is located about 20 minutes from my house and I always enjoyed looking for coaster track when I drove by.

B&M has ended the contract with Clermont Steel Fabricators in Ohio, which has closed permanently.

Spending a little time visiting my Grandma this morning. She worked at Coney Island in the 1950s and looks back fondly on those days. She turned 90 in January!

Picked this up at a local Half Price Books a few months ago.
