Our other alumni spotlight (at the moment) is Sydney Guns, part of the FFHS class of 2022 and now the class of 2026 at Elon University! Sydney was passionate about music and a devoted techie to many StageKraft productions, so it’s no surprise to see her love for the performing arts lead to a degree as a Teaching Fellow in music education. She was the drum major for the Fire of the Carolinas, Elon’s band, for 3 years (to no one’s surprise!) and part of many other ensembles within the music program. She’s traveled to numerous local schools and even foreign countries to teach music, jumping into this career headfirst. Aside from graduating, one of her most recent accomplishments is performing at Carnegie Hall this spring … sound familiar?! 🙂 We are so excited to see Sydney’s teaching career begin and we know her students will be lucky to have a teacher like her! 🎓♥️💛

Only 2 alumni spotlights so far this year - alumni, send us your updates! 🙂

First of a few alumni spotlights this year! Kayla Brown, FFHS class of 2022 and most recently ECU class of 2026! Kayla received her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, focusing on film, and she’s landed a job as a social media editor at Phillip Benz Productions in Greenville. Kayla was a dedicated performer in all of her productions with StageKraft and will undoubtedly bring that same focus and determination to this new role after college. We are thrilled and so proud to see her continuing to pursue the arts from all kinds of new angles! 🎓💜💛

Seniors,

We told you to “break a leg” and what you heard was “break the records.” You started out as Lost Boys and pirates in Peter Pan and Wendy, captivated the audience as the dancing queens in Mamma Mia, slayed AND became the monsters in She Kills Monsters, served both real and fake friendship vibes among the characters in Mean Girls, honored a quietly horrific historic story in Radium Girls, brought both the terror and hilarity in Addams Family, transformed our stage into the magical world of Narnia in The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe, and produced StageKraft’s most successful show ever this spring with a razzle-dazzling, unforgettable performance of Chicago.

You have been role models onstage, backstage, in the booth, in the dressing rooms, and so many other places. You’ve given each other friendship, encouragement, a shoulder to cry on, and wisdom. You are such a memorable class in innumerable ways. You got better and better with every single show, and more importantly, you each changed us all for the better from year to year.

You have truly made your mark in StageKraft history. We are so incredibly proud of you and we love you all so much, our StageKraft class of 2026. 🎭🎓💙

And our final senior series question, ending with our much-loved merry murderess Velma Kelly, aka Anya Preston:

If we could have done any show of your choice during your time in StageKraft, what would you choose and why?

Anya: Anastasia 100%! I’ve always loved Anastasia as it was the first musical I saw and got into theatre with. We could definitely do an amazing production of it and I think it would catch people by surprise if they realized how good the musical itself is. I also see myself playing Anastasia/Anya as it’s my number one dream role! 🎭🎓💙

Final two of the 2026 senior series, beginning today with our wonderful, irreplaceable Nyx Furr:

If you were writing a will and had to leave something behind for a younger StageKraft member, what would it be, who would it be for, and why?

Nyx: There are SO MANY momentos I could leave behind, but I think if it had to be one, I would pick either my playbills from various cast parties or the tiny disco ball charm I’ve had since freshman year. The playbills are something I revisit often, even after these shows end, because all of the messages and silly jokes written by my fellow cast and crew never fail to make me laugh, cry, and feel grateful to be surrounded by so much love and support. The disco ball charm is a little more specific. I cant remember if I got it from Mamma Mia, homecoming, or prom during my freshman year, but to me, that tiny disco ball represents my own beginnings in this program and how much I’ve grown since then; growth I could not have achieved without all of my StageKraft family.

As to who I’d give these items to, it’s a really hard choice but i would have to say Tony. His optimism and commitment is something you instantly notice during rehearsals, and it’s something I admire even as a senior. When Tony and his friends greet me each morning with a big “HI NYX!”, I know I’m going to have a great day. He always brings something memorable to each role and show, and his confidence is something I know future generations of performers and techies will look up to. He truly is the sunshine of StageKraft, and someone I consider a very dear friend. I believe wholeheartedly you will do amazing things in the future, Tony, never lose your shine!!! 🎭🎓💙

And our second senior series today, from techie extraordinaire and Little Shop fanatic Sophie Vaught!

If you’ve mainly been an actor and had to do a tech job, or if you’ve mainly been a techie and had to act in a show, what show/job would you choose and why?
Sophie: I would answer Little Shop of Horrors every single time. Little Shop always has and always will hold a very special place in my heart because it’s my all-time favorite movie, first ever professional theatre production, and the reason why I joined theatre in the first place.

While doing the lights would be the job I’d find most ideal, I would be honored to perform any part in Little Shop all the way from the sweet daydreamer from skid row to a bloodthirsty plant from outer space. 🎭🎓💙
