Our final day of Eagle Explorers 1 🦅
We made the trek to Wapsipinicon State Park to explore the upside down bridge, spillway, caves, and hear the local lore around the caves. We were lucky enough to meet a local man who used to work for the park system before retiring who shared more stories about an old swimming hole, an actual swimming pool that was fed by the Wapsi River, and old stone stairs that lead down to the river that were built in the 1800s for people cooling off in the summer heat.
On our way back toward base camp, we stopped at Palisades-Kepler State Park to eat lunch, check out the Cedar, and learned about the dam and what portaging means after noticing the signs. We talked about water levels, water safety, and currents.
We had time for a quick stop at Morgan Creek Park before concluding our camp session. They came back to base camp tired, muddy, and asking about next year!
Up next: I'm taking a week break from all camps and play times! Check back for Little Sprouts, Peregrine Pals, and Talon Trekkers 2 for the week of June 29th! 🌿
