The Studios of Key West The Studios of Key West's mission is to support artists, inspire creativity and build community.
(706)

The Studios of Key West is located at the former Scottish Rite Masonic Center at the corner of Simonton and Eaton Streets, renovated through generous donations in 2015. Built in 1951, it’s spacious, sturdy and suffused with light – an iconic piece of Miami Deco architecture located in the heart of downtown Key West, just one block from Duval Street. This facility includes a 200 seat professional t

heater, the island’s largest gallery devoted to contemporary art, nine studios for practicing artists, and two dedicated classrooms, including a cutting edge digital media lab. The most recent addition is Hugh’s View, a rooftop terrace providing space for outdoor programming such as concerts, plein air classes and more. Plus, our Carriage Trade Artist Residencies are located just next door at 529 Eaton Street. With dedicated creative spaces for exhibitions, performances, instruction and art making, and housing artist residencies, our facilities offer a cultural platform that lives up to Key West’s creative potential.

• Fortuna is joining the Marketing & Advancement team, helping share our story, connect with supporters, and keep all the moving pieces organized behind the scenes.
• Evee is working with Kota in the Helmerich Theater, learning the ropes of lighting, sound, production, and technical theater.

We’re thrilled to have their energy, creativity, and fresh perspectives on board. If you see them around, be sure to say hello and help us give Vincent, Fortuna, and Evee a warm Studios welcome! 💙

Can you write a play in 24 hours? Act in one? Direct one? Build a set? Run lights? Make theater magic happen?

One Night Stand is back August 1, and we're looking for playwrights, actors, directors, designers, stagehands, musicians, and brave souls of all kinds to join the adventure.

The premise is simple: teams are formed on Friday evening, four brand-new plays are written overnight, rehearsed the next day, and performed for a live audience just 24 hours later. It's creative chaos, sleep deprivation, and some of the most fun you'll ever have in a theater.

No experience? No problem. Veterans and first-timers are all welcome.

Interested? Fill out the interest form by June 26 to be part of this year's cast and crew: https://forms.gle/rAbN3Q461VeJpvCK8

One night. Four new plays. Countless unforgettable moments.

Gods. Spirits. Heroes. Tricksters. Every culture tells stories through myth. What stories shape your work?

For thousands of years, myths have helped us explain the world, pass down knowledge, and tell stories about what it means to be human. In this two-day workshop, Wendell Smith explores how mythology can become a rich source of inspiration for contemporary creative practice.

Drawing from Afro-Caribbean, Greco-Roman, and Indigenous cosmologies, participants will investigate symbols, archetypes, and storytelling traditions while developing ideas for their own work.

Whether you're a visual artist, writer, performer, or lifelong learner, this workshop offers fresh ways to deepen your creative voice through the power of myth.

Monday & Tuesday, June 15-16, 11am-3pm. Scholarships available.

What memories does Key West hold for you?

Join visiting Eszter Sziksz for a unique workshop exploring memory, place, and the power of sunlight as an artistic medium. Through guided reflection and the historic cyanotype process, participants will create beautiful blue-toned prints inspired by personal stories, treasured mementos, and their connection to the island.

Bring photographs, letters, found objects, or other meaningful keepsakes—or simply come with your memories. No artistic experience is necessary.

Saturday, June 13 from 12-4pm. Half and full scholarships available!
