Join us at Shade Ceramics and Shutter Photography on Thursday, October 15, from 6 to 8 PM—with a special appearance by the fencefairy!

We’re excited to welcome you for an evening of handmade ceramics, photography, and community. Stop in, spend some time with us, and explore the creativity that makes our neighborhood so special.

Held on the third Thursday of each month, Walk on White brings local galleries, studios, and art-loving businesses together for an evening of open studios, live music, street vendors, great food, and complimentary libations.

From a distance, the pattern wraps around this bowl as a whole. Up close, each square has its own character—the warm orange, the bright yellow-green, the soft pale shapes, and the marks left by the making.

That’s one of my favorite things about handmade pottery: there’s always more to notice when you live with it.

This large red-clay form is part of my continuing exploration of presence.
I’ve been looking for ways to create tension within a shape—the full, rounded body meeting a smaller, more architectural top; weight balanced against restraint; curves interrupted by sharper lines. When those opposing qualities hold together, the form begins to feel more substantial and alive.
The piece is still in progress, but the tension is beginning to give it the presence I was looking for.

This platter is a cousin to my usual body of work rather than a member of the immediate family. It was built from slabs instead of thrown on the wheel—andI love it just the same.
It’s earthy, organic, and unmistakably touched by human hands. The softly irregular edges and visible marks of its making give it warmth and character. Measuring 14 inches in diameter, it’s generously sized—enough room for a beautiful paella, to feed a crowd.
If you love the honest, handmade feel of pottery, this piece may be the one for you.

While shaping this large pot, the shoulder somehow made its way off-center.
And I like it.
That small shift gives the whole form movement—almost as though the pot turned its head while I was working. A happy accident, and a good reminder that clay sometimes has ideas of its own. If you're paying attention.

The size of my kiln sets the outer limit—but I’m having a lot of fun recreating some of my signature shapes on a larger scale.
Each form has its own personality, and together they feel like quite a gathering.
