ÉXODUS — “GOODBYE CUBA”
By Aisar Jalil Martínez

The harsh reality of generations of Cubans who, for decades, have risked—and continue to risk—their lives driven by a dream as simple as it is profound: to one day experience freedom.

ÉXODUS is a powerful work charged with memory, pain, and hope. Inspired by the poster for Rolando Díaz’s film Goodbye Cuba, the artwork creates a poignant dialogue between art and a reality that has shaped generations of Cubans.

Mixed media on canvas
40 × 47 inches
An artwork about migration, survival, separation, and the enduring human desire for freedom.

This is what I would call Public Art at Its Finest.

True public art is not simply about placing a work in an urban space. It is about creating an artistic intervention capable of engaging with the community, enriching its surroundings, and fostering a profound connection with the history, identity, and collective memory of a place.

When art becomes integrated into a city’s life in this way, it ceases to be merely a work of art and becomes part of the cultural heritage and everyday experience of its citizens. Humberto Castro boasts a documented track record of installations, murals, public space interventions, and participatory art—a career that began with the Hexágono Group in Cuba and has expanded through major institutional projects in Miami and internationally. His connection to Key West, represented by Studio Fine Cuban Art to Collect, adds a contemporary local dimension to this body of work.

Furthermore, the *Ocean Eyes* project—an official work of the Key West Food and W**e Festival - Award Winning - explicitly links Castro to both Cuba and Key West.

To all artists in Key West and the Florida Keys,

We are calling for greater transparency, fairness, and equal opportunities for local artists.

Our creative community deserves a process that is open, accountable, and respectful of the talent, time, and contributions of the artists who make this region culturally vibrant.

It is time to come together, ask questions, demand clarity, and advocate for a more equitable artistic environment.

Local artists deserve to be heard—and treated fairly.

RITUAL SERIES

An extraordinary original work from the Ritual Series, where the expressive power of oil on canvas meets the luminous elegance of 24-karat gold leaf.

The circular format creates a sense of continuity, symbolism, and contemplation, while the gold introduces a striking interplay between light, surface, and movement. More than a decorative object, this work invites the viewer into a visual experience—one that speaks to ritual, identity, transformation, and the enduring relationship between art and the human spirit.

Medium: Oil on canvas with 24-karat gold leaf
Format: Round
Diameter: 59 inches

A remarkable statement piece for collectors seeking contemporary art with presence, material richness, and lasting visual impact.
