Monroe County Sheriff's Office Animal Farm Non-Profit animal sanctuary in Key West, FL, started in 1994. When they arrive here, they are home. It is free of charge and donations are appreciated.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office Animal Farm is home to approximately 150 animals. We provide a haven for animals which have been abandoned, abused, confiscated or donated. The farm is open the second and fourth Sundays each month from 1 - 3 pm, and is free of charge to the public. Bring the family and come visit the animals at the farm, including horses, Zebu, pigs, goats, sheep, bunnies, allig

ators, tropical birds, kinkajou, Lemurs, Kramer the Emu, Jack the ostrich, tortoises and turtles, snakes and many more. The farm is located just off of College Road, on Stock Island, at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters complex. Community and school groups may schedule special tours at the farm by calling Farmer Jeanne Selander at 305-293-7300. (note: private tours for the general public are not available)

It’s been a while since I’ve done a thank you for all the donated produce. Thanks to Shannon for prep meals; Christa for delivering produce donated by Publix Key Plaza; Ralph DePalma for corn on the cob; and many other anonymous donors who randomly drop off goodies for the animals. We appreciate all of you. Thank you, and the animals thank you!

The farm will be open this Sunday, (6/28) from 1 to 3 PM. If you’d like to donate produce for the animals, we need squash and heads of romaine lettuce. Today was shearing day for Arabella alpaca! Alpacas originate from the cooler highlands of Peru, so South Florida’s heat and humidity can be especially challenging. Annual shearing is an important part of her care, helping her stay comfortable and healthy during our warm climate.

Because Arabella’s fleece is heavily matted, it isn’t suitable for use, so our primary focus is removing it as quickly and safely as possible to minimize the time she spends restrained and to reduce stress. She is now ready to stay much cooler in the months ahead!
