Sunlight, sea air, an iconic location, and a brush on canvas…it’s Key West at its finest. ☀️🌊🎨

From just beyond the fence, an artist paints the iconic Key West Lighthouse, drawn by the light, the colors, and the history that make this place so special.

That’s the magic of Key West. ✨

The island is ablaze with color as the beloved poinciana trees burst into bloom 🌺🔥, their brilliant red blossoms painting the streets and skies of Key West with tropical vibrance 🌴☀️

At Key West Art & Historical Society, we’re fortunate to preserve this beauty in many forms across our permanent collection 🖼️ From delicate watercolors that capture the tree’s airy canopy 🎨, to vivid paintings rich with color, to vintage postcards and photographs that freeze these fiery blooms in time.

Here’s just a small sample of how artists and photographers have celebrated this spectacular tree over the years 🌿

🐄 in 1914, with an investment of just 12 cattle, J. Roland Adams opened Adams Dairy in Key West. His dairy largely replaced 'milk on the hoof,' the common practice of bringing a cow directly to a customer’s home for fresh milk on demand. Adams Dairy helped modernize milk distribution in the island community and became an important part of Key West’s early commercial history.

Two men, a quiet corner, and a slice of Old Key West life. Stan Sharp’s watercolor captures the spirit of the original Fisherman’s Café, once a go-to gathering place where locals swapped fishing stories 🐟, shared news 📰, and felt right at home🏠.

Housed near the old Oversea Railway station 🚂, the café was known for its familiar faces and warm welcomes, where your café con leche ☕️ might be waiting before you even sat down.
