We skate at the Kettering Recreation Center, on Tuesdays and Sundays, and South Metro Sports on Thursdays. The Kettering Ice Arena in Kettering, Ohio is “home” to the South Dayton Figure Skating Club (SDFSC), a not-for profit [501 (c) (3)] organization. SDFSC is the only club in the Dayton Suburban area that offers full membership privileges of the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA),
and has been a member of USFS since 1972. Participation in the SDFSC is the next step for serious skaters who have completed the City of Kettering's USFS Basic Skills program and wish to expand their skills in the various disciplines of figure skating. SDFSC creates opportunities for skaters to build self-esteem as they become accomplished in their choice of moves in the field (MIF), freestyle, dance, synchronized skating, and pairs. We offer quality ice time designed to maximize skating progress, as well as maintaining a roster of Club-approved skating professionals who teach group classes and private lessons during Club ice time. USFS judges come to SDFSC on several test days each season, to evaluate progress on a regular basis, through a series of tests identified in the USFS skating program. In addition to periodic testing, SDFSC encourages skaters to participate regularly in competitions and exhibitions. SDFSC skaters may attend competitions hosted across the nation, and there are several held annually within a 200-mile radius of Dayton. SDFSC hosts the annual Silver Skate competition at the Kettering Ice Arena. The club also has one or more exhibitions that are open to the public each year. SDFSC is the sponsor organization for the Ice Force synchronized skating teams who compete in four divisions: Beginner, Open Juvenile, Pre Juvenile, Intro Team and an Adult Synchro Team. Ice Force offers figure skaters a unique team approach to competitive figure skating. Synchro competitions are separate events from regular figure skating competitions. Some locations to which the Ice Force may travel to compete include Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, and Nashville. The SDFSC succeeds because of the contributions of its members, and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who receive no compensation.
