👱♀️PRINCIPAL CAST: Islington as Goldilocks 👱♀️
Islington started her dance journey at age five. She began with a pre hip-hop class at Funk Lab, eager to follow in her older brother’s footsteps. She soon added classes at Modern Elements, including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, acro and musical theater. She is entering her fourth year of competition with Modern Elements Company, and her third with Funk Lab Crew.
Embracing many styles, she loves the variety of classes and opportunities she has being a dual program dancer. As acompetitive dancer, she’s been fortunate to be part of several groups that have won coveted “buzzer” awards at regional competitions.
Some personal highlights: receiving a special judges award and first in category her first year of competition at ID Nationals with her acro trio; being part of the first ever PAC attack callback award for Modern Elements with her petite/junior jazz group that also placed first at Luxxe and PAC and continuing that streak with another buzzer for that group last year.
She is a proud original member of the Lil Hittaz hip hop team! She was excited to perform with Lil Hittaz last year at a Wright State men’s basketball game. The absolute highlight for her came this summer at ID Nationals. Lil Hittaz was awarded an ID Icon buzzer and invitation to the ID Showcase. This was her personal goal going into the year as she wanted to feel the excitement she witnessed when her brother received the same accomplishment previously. She always wants to make him proud!
Taking advantage of all the opportunities that both studios offer, she has been able to work with many acclaimed choreographers that consistently bring exciting challenges which she embraces. She has received the studio Performance award each year as well as several cherished individual awards from teachers including “Little Miss Sunshine”, “Center Stage Sparkle”, “Push it to the Limit” , “Flipmode” and “Everyone’s Bestie”. She enjoys being part of community performances with both Crew and Company and as a result has also consistently received the studio Involvement award.
Isli loves her dance family! Her studio nickname “Smiley Isli” is fitting. She’s a genuine cheerleader for her fellow dancers, always ready with a hug or encouraging word. The friendships she has made by far outweigh any awards or accolades past or future.
Outside of dance she is a member of the Centerville Ski and Rider club where she is continuing to improve in hersnowboarding skills. She is hoping to add some tumbling classes to her busy schedule this Fall as well. The youngest of five, she loves being with her family including her dog, Everett. Swimming, biking and reading round out her favorite “non dance” activities.
Isli is excited to be Goldilocks in the inaugural production of “Over the River and Through the Woods”. This will be her third year in a title role with Modern Elements Fall production.
