Françoise Gilot (1921 - 2023)
With a heavy heart I bid farewell to the one and only Françoise; a much loved and admired gallery artist whom I was proud to represent for almost twenty years. I'll especially miss the many conversations spanning every conceivable subject, as well as silently enjoying classical concerts and opera together in New York, and in my beloved Vienna. She lived in a rarefied space in which art, music, literature, philosophy, science, history and nature were harmoniously intertwined, like plants embracing each other and growing together. This highly creative and contemplative space was not only her home, but her voice, and we're all the richer for it. Françoise had a lion's courage and never ceased to follow that voice, even while sharing her life with lions the likes of Pablo Picasso and Jonas Salk, or while entirely on her own, with three children on her back, along with many books, brushes, oil paints and canvases... that would tell the world her story.
