Sheep were first brought to the Wood River Valley in the late 1860’s, and their industry would grow to eventually be one of the largest in the world. Needless to say, that while it had changed, it still represents a long standing tradition in the Valley. It has brought many diverse groups to the south west region of Idaho that, in turn, have brought many of their own traditions that we honor today during the Trailing of the Sheep Festival.
The festival takes place in early October in Ketchum, ID, when the aspens are tinged with gold and (usually) we can still enjoy a touch of warmth before the snow falls .
