Blue Turtle Knives

Blue Turtle Knives I upsycle old tools and scrap wood to create one of a kind pieces of art that can be used everyday. I make handmade knives from all local recycled materials.

I make everything from pareing knives to Philippino headhunting knives. Some of the materials I use for the blades include crosscut saws from the 1900's, leafsprings, worn out files, and even bronze screws. For the handles I use mostly local hardwood cherry and black walnut. I have also used antler bone, leather, tropical hardwood, and american chestnut. My sheaths are from 100 year old machine belts.

Operating as usual

This ones available, no sheath cuz I don’t have shop access atm. L6, green micarta, handle on the larger side. Small cat approved!

I have a love hate relationship with bone, but it’s fantastic when it cooperates. (I only assisted with this one)

Wedding present: when I worked at restore we had a guy drop off some stuff and ask if we took butcher knives. He was retiring after many years and wanted his knives to go to a good place. These victorinox butcher knives are really excellent knives but the handles are kind of boring so I spiced it up with some curly maple, yellow liners, brass bolts and a SS lanyard hole.

This was a really fun project, I was surprised at the turned wooden k**b at the end and at the cloth? Someone deformed the lead but it should function just fine. No idea on age but old. Anyone have any old jacks that need some new leather?

What color should I use for this old jack?
The original leather is dry rotted so I’m going to try my hand at giving it some new life. From left to right..

A- medium brown
B- dark purple
C- very dark brown
D- light brown

I’m leaning toward the purple with dark blue thread, but haven’t quite decided.

Got to test out my practice knife from our forging class by making a bow drill set with a bit for drilling. Not really designed for carving but it did great.

Well he did it again! Christened the Apocalypse Pick and rightfully so, this thing is a beast. Thanks to all the hard work put in by Blue Turtle Knives I have another truly original knife that will last a lifetime. If you’ve been on the fence about commissioning a knife just know you’re missing out.
