Hip Hop Hoop Troop

Hip Hop Hoop Troop Hoop dance is an exciting combination of exercise and self-expression! Everyone has the opportunity to choose & create their own music and dances!

Students learn how to move a hula hoop with their waists, arms, hands, legs and even their feet. Hip Hop Hoop Troop is a hoop dance program, proud to be a part of Kent Parks and Recreation. We started in 2014 with 8 participating students. Years later, we have grown into 3 separate levels of classes with 20-30 students involved. Together, we focus on self care and community first, and dancing seco

nd. We have created an environment of love and support. It is a place where children feel safe to discover themselves, and then express themselves. Students have the opportunity to choose their own music and choreograph their own dances. We discuss the meanings and emotions within the songs and how they can use their bodies to communicate that message. They understand the feeling of empowerment through ownership and they are growing to be confident, compassionate young people. My hope is that they will continue to feel whole on the inside, so that they can work to better their world on the outside as well. Ages 8-18 are welcome and all skill levels are encouraged! Kent Parks and Recreation has canceled Saturday classes due to weather. This means there will be no Hip Hop Hoop class tomorrow, January 13th. Stay safe and warm!
