Theatre Battery here, writing with the unfortunate news that the extension performances of JAR OF FAT on October 2, 3, and 4 have been cancelled and the run has been declared closed.

After the performances of last weekend, we learned that there are four members of our cast experiencing symptoms and/or testing postive for COVID-19. Rather than carry the production forward in the midst of this outbreak, we have decided to cancel these added performances in the interest of the health and well-being of our community.

We are extremely proud of this production and are so grateful to the many audience members that attended, as well as to our donors who gave in support of our Radical Hospitality ticketing.

We would like to recognize the incredible work of the cast, crew, and creative team on this project, with a special thanks to Seayoung Yim for giving us the gift of sharing her story, words, and stunningly creative view of the world.

Thank you to our incredible sponsors who made this run possible: Kent Station, Kent-Meridian Drama, 4culture, the Pete and Pat Curran Family Fund, and the Venturous Theater Fund.

For anyone who donated for the extension at the point of reservation, Bold Type Tickets will be processing a full reimbursement to your accounts that you should see reflected within 10-14 business days. We know this isn't how we imagined ending this magnificent run, but we must now honor our collective need for congratulations, rest, and responsible measures to limit the spread of this viral outbreak.

David Ellis was called back last night. After a year-long battle with cancer, he died as he lived: surrounded by friends, family, storytelling, and live music. A father, brother, son, teacher, activist, rocker, filmmaker, boater, and a pillar in the community of Theatre Battery since our founding.

JAR OF FAT is going to be extended by three performances, now closing on Sunday, October 4th! Reservations are available now at theatrebattery.org.

Performances this weekend are full on reservations, but a limited number of seats will be made available to walk-up audiences at the door, first come, first served. Next weekend has limited availability, with Sunday, the 27th currently full and the evening performances with just a few places remaining. Reserve early for the extension to guarantee places!

We are proud to share that our 2025 project THE THREEPENNY OPERA has been nominated for eight awards from THE SOUND ON STAGE, including for overall production of a musical, ensemble performance, Supporting Actor Adrienne Wells, Stage Manager Cricket Neiss, Choreographer Fen Lastra, Scenic Designer Bella Rivera, Costume Designer Meg Powers, and Director Logan Ellis.

The awards ceremony and community celebration will be hosted at the Tacoma Little Theatre on September 14th!

We are proud to announce the return of SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK for its EIGHTH iteration performing August 1st, 2026! Applications are open now for actors, directors, playwrights, composers, singers, and new play storytellers - theatrebattery.org/work-with-us.

Starting in 2013, SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK has been produced by Theatre Battery in order to celebrate new plays and build networks among theatre artists in the Puget Sound region. The time limit, production challenge scenarios, and randomized creative teams provide an instant canvas on which to take risks and build trust between otherwise unlikely collaborators. The resulting performance is a singular and sleep deprived expression of Theatre Battery’s community.

With Theatre Battery presenting the world premiere of JAR OF FAT by Seayoung Yim this summer, we thought it would be a perfect time to revive the festival in which we first got to see Seayoung's work on our stage over ten years ago. Hundreds of local artists have participated in this project, spawning lasting collaborative relationships, published new plays and film projects, and memories of great encounters with voices of the Pacific Northwest.
