Omar Willey has published this incredible late breaking review of our THREEPENNY in The Seattle Star, writing in praise of the production and resistance to the state of the American Theater.

"Director Logan Ellis and designers Meg Powers and Bella Rivera are clearly dedicated to finding the play’s dark underbelly. I could quibble with the translation, and various omissions and inclusions. Instead I will note how very jagged everything was. Scenes felt abrasive again. Language felt startling again. In short, the cast have found away to scrape away the patina of 'great play' and return the text to a state where, despite its popularity among the mindless bourgeoisie of Weimar Germany, the play remains offensive when most productions are very, very defensive indeed.

I’m also very keen on the cast itself. I always enjoy watching Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, and her turn as Polly is a lovely centerpiece for this show. It’s intelligent, naive, vulgar, and hilarious by turns, and always thoughtful as her work tends to be. The clever interpersonal dynamics from Robert McPherson surprised me a bit, probably because I’m so used to seeing him perform solo. But it’s great to watch him work as he makes everyone around him stronger."

Review by Anna Tatelman -

"Theatre Battery’s Threepenny Opera is the kind of show that rivets you to your seat and haunts your thoughts long after the curtain falls. This production does an excellent job of showcasing both why the original socio-political opera was so powerful while adapting the text, music, and staging for a modern audience. If you’re looking for a show that features spectacular musicians and vocalists, takes place in a unique found location, and serves up Cabaret-style political commentary that makes you both laugh and cringe in recognition, this one is a do-not-miss."

Three more performances!! We are sold out tonight and on Sunday, but there are still some tickets available to reserve for Saturday's performance at theatrebattery.strangertickets.com.

We are very proud to share Dusty Somers' review of THE THREEPENNY OPERA in The Seattle Times, hailing the production as "enormously entertaining," "stacked with vibrant performances," and "truly dazzling musical heights."

"Nearly 15 years on, Theatre Battery’s mission of bringing accessible theater to an underserved area continues to be admirable. But its bold programming and high-quality productions make it more than a nice story; this is one of our region’s theatrical gems."

Free tickets are available now at theatrebattery.org - performances running through September 7th!
