St. Gertrude of Nivelles, patroness of travelers, gardeners, mental illness, (and cats!?!! 💛😸) This abbess from present day Belgium is not *officially* a patron of cats (there is no official one yet.. 😥), but according to wiki, became associated with cats in ~80s.. and on etsy... Which I am all about! 😅😂 This was made for a bit ago for a friend who has a beautiful cat whose photos made my day 😍 and I included it in this quick art-postcard I made for her ☺️ since then I have been lucky enough to take care of my own cat 😺
We ask for her intersession to help with our mental health, that my houseplants will survive despite my lack of a 🌿thumb, and for future travels and adventures.. what's not to like!? 😸

Dreaming of snow and tall stands of pine as we stay cozy in the Midwest cold, eating all of the cookies and houses we made and hazelnut coffee 😋

Anyone else feel overwhelmed with all of the boxes?? Left over from moving (or online orders 😅). This is my way of repurposing them as recycling in my town/building in WI is a challenge 🥴 I think I'll do a small series of these, but still have some more paintings and art I've made this year to share!

This isn't on my website yet, but is $20 as it was a fun study. +$5 and I'll frame it for you ☺️..

This image of hiking amounts the fall colors was inspired by a photo taken by 's son! These are such gorgeous colors and textures that I really wanted to explore with ☺️ I'm planning on starting up another series soon, but until then I'll share some more digital art and pieces I've made this past year.

Can you believe it's almost Thanksgiving??! And all she leaves are just about gone?

I've been having a lot of fun playing around with 🥰 & It was about time for a new self portrait ~ three tones that remain to be some of my favorite colors to work with... so why not have three sketches to match that? 😂

I've been struggling with the idea of creating more waste with my art, and making is a way to remedy that and not get stressed about wasting materials 😬 especially when I experiment with different ideas!

3rd state I've really lived in these past 3 years, 3 different catholic orgs, 3 different colors, but I enjoying the comfort of being back in Wisconsin and closer to family ☺️ (& the ❄️ for ski season as I hear this crazy wind outside! 🌬️)

It was such a joy to make this painting of St.Joseph and Jesus to be auctioned off at SJCA, my school's, yearly fundraising auction! With all of the items, we were able to raise $200,000 🤯

St. Joseph is a saint near and dear to my heart, from being born on his feast day to taking a break between classes at his shrine at my alma mater (St.Norbert College) I have found so much peace and support from his prayers and intercessions. Exploring his image with JC with a limited palette, on while attempting to maintain traits in his heritage (non-white, obviously) was an adventure to say the least 😅 as was trying to varnish the painting after it was done 🙈 (I had to re draw baby Jesus 3 times!! 🥴) But a good one and a fun way to (hopefully) return to my art practice as I try to do things I enjoy doing again in this tough time...

(Also, please excuse the reflection of my hand in the glass on top of the image 😅😂)

Thank you for following the process of making this painting, and for the feedback when I was making se tough decisions -- i really appreciate it!! I am open to for Thanksgiving and Christmas gifts this year 💚❤️💚❤️

As I was leaving for my second summer of gradschool, I noticed my mom was planning to toss her old dictionary, from the 80s. I can only imagine how much she used it when we moved to the US in the late 90s - a tool nowadays almost obsolete. As I've struggled reconciling my love for art as well as my love for the environment this past year (meaning wasting and using as little as possible) this seems to be a great way to be authentic in my practice as I've almost filled the sketchbooks I already have - and giving new life to an old way of learning and an unwanted object.. hopefully I will someday fill every page. What better subject than the summer's redwing blackbirds I miss seeing everyday? I gessoed the page, and used and pens!
It's got a great texture too!! @ Honolulu, Hawaii

Welcome to my class! :)
Recently, I've been focusing on a new art form - teaching! I plan to use the blog portion of my website to chronicle my growth as a new teacher, and reflect on how I can improve in this new stage. Feel free to tag along for the ride!

(Don't worry, I'm still creating 2D art other than classroom decorations, and plan to share with you soon!)

To chronicle my first year of teaching I am starting this blog, after Thanksgiving break. Who knows how much I will continue, but reflection is always good and aids in personal (and professional) g…

Koko Head Crater

Spent some time oils painting today, finishing my previous work. 😊 While I do love Inktober, and other challenges, sometimes it feels more stressful than what I want my creation to be - and drives me to make work I don't really like and don't like sharing. Maybe in time I'll do something again as I change my mind (or just try to during the days rather than being confined by a certain prompt)

Hiking Koko Head is alot of fun, especially when done at 4am surrounded by friends who are also trying to catch their breath 😅

Day 9: Precious

Pineapples are precious. A sign of hospitality, golden, and delicious. I hope to visit the Dole plantation sometime soon to see these amazing plants grow.
Another reason these could be considered prescious is that there's a Victorian variety that fancy people can buy for over a grand. That's pretty neat. (But what's even more neat is that you can buy these if you remember to bring a canvas bag!)

Day 8: Star

Starfruit is something that I hope to try relatively soon. My co-workers bring them sometimes to share from their trees - but I am so perplexed by them! How do I eat it? Do I have to cut it up? Do I have to cook it? These guys can get kinda expensive at the stores here, so hopefully I can get one at a farmers market relatively soon... This is a great food that I could try! It has vitamins A, C and anti-microbial effects within. That's pretty neat.

I'm trying to challenge myself more this series, and I want to draw more portraits... But finding ways to have myself interact with the food should be an interesting process... Stay tuned!
