MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT

Hello Folk Music Lovers!

We've got a couple of things that we need to share with you.

First of all, there will not be a December Hoot this year. We were informed by Kemper Center and Anderson Arts Center that there is 'no room at the inn'. All of their venues are booked for their December activities and they are not able to accommodate the Hootenanny in December. We sent correspondence asking to reserve space for the Hootenanny's 2026 schedule and never heard back from them. It has been made clear that they cannot guarantee dates and are wanting a guaranteed payment amount each month that we are not able to agree to. So, we have decided to part ways. It's been a wonderful 30+ years and we thank Kemper/Anderson for their generosity over the years.

We have found a new home. As of our January 2, 2026, the Kenosha Hootenanny gathering we will be meeting at Bradford Community Church UU, 5810 8th Avenue, Kenosha, WI 53140. Bradford Community Church UU is very excited to have us and we are very much looking forward to our new home. We will send out an email a week before the January meeting to provide more details.

Happy Holidays!
Bob and Kristin

Members of the Portage Road Songwriters Guild
(each performer will present at least 3 songs )
The Portage Road Songwriters Guild formed after a WSSS sponsored songwriting workshop with Bob Franke almost 25 years ago. WSSS Founder Joe DeLucia will be performing also.
Eric Baer is a singer and songwriter from Milwaukee. Eric has been part of the Portage Road Songwriting Guild for over 20 years. His favorite part of writing is to take stories and find a new way to tell them.
Jay Bullock is an English teacher & essayist in Milwaukee. His songs are alternately poignant, politically relevant, and hilarious, full of interesting characters and clever wordplay. Well-known for innovative acoustic guitar work, he brings a robust energy to his playing that suggests a full band even when it’s just him. Bob Estes has been a performing as a singer-songwriter for fifty years, a multi instrumentalist providing backup to bands playing fiddle, mandolin, and guitar. Originally from the Milwaukee area, he currently lives with his wife, Kristin, in Kenosha, after spending time in Minneapolis and Washington, DC. He and Kristin currently host the monthly Kenosha Hootenanny, a gathering that has been around for over 35 years. Based in Milwaukee.
Rick Fitzgerald is a folksinger/songwriter, guitarist, and award-winning autoharp player from Franklin, Wisconsin. His delightful songs and engaging vocal style can touch your heart, or your funny bone and make you want to sing along.
Chris Head can be seen most frequently fronting Chris Head & the Honchos, with whom he has recorded three albums of original material (Hard Truths, Chicken Wire, & Cubed). He also makes room for solo performances, enjoying the opportunity to strip songs down to their core and revealing what Milwaukee’s Shepherd-Express called his “salient observations on [the] virtues of working-class life and the changing of gender mores.”
Chris Straw, Jon Pagenkopf & Lorraine Straw are “Some Like It Folk”. Chris and Lorraine are sisters, & have sung together since they were children. Jon & Chris are married, and one or both have been members of a number of musical groups with other Milw. musicians. All are happily retired or mostly retired professionals, enjoying time to devote to music ! Chris is founding member of the Portage Road Songwriters Guild.
Joe DeLucia is originally from the south side of Chicago, came to Wisconsin in 1975 and started writing & performing in the Milwaukee area at the Blue River Cafe, Numero Uno’s, and Prima’s on Downer. He created WSSS in 1991, with the first concert being Lou & Peter Berryman in June 1992. He is a mix of James Taylor & John Prine style songwriting & guitar playing
