Happy Juneteenth 💛
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865. That day was the day the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, we honor the resilience, creativity, and contributions of our Black communities while recognizing the ongoing pursuit of equity and justice.
At Carthage College VPA, we celebrate the Black artists, performers, storytellers, musicians, designers, and creators whose voices have shaped the arts and continue to inspire new generations. This Juneteenth, we reaffirm our commitment to uplifting diverse perspectives, fostering creativity, and ensuring every voice has the opportunity to be seen, heard, and celebrated.
