Y'all today I want to talk to you about Melody. She has been with us for what seems like forever. If you need something done, she gets it done. Notably, she has kept the plants alive this summer which that alone is worth mentioning.
Her calm and steady demeanor creates such a good vibe here; if you've met her, you know what I mean.

Melody tells me she loves the things that she's learned here, which include rolling clay slabs, cutting clay templates, pouring molds, packing orders, and working in the PYOP studio. She enjoys being 'behind the scenes', even when the tasks are tedious and she especially loves when she gets to make things.

Melody also is a pet sitter, and walks dogs like a pro. She's really into travel, concerts/plays/musicals, and has a minor (major?) obsession with Elvis. She has a life size cut out of him in her room! In addition, she 'loves old things with a passion', particularly physical media.

Melody plays guitar, violin, and also dabbles with other instruments.
So many hobbies, so little time.

Wrenworks Art Studio is what it is because of the people. It has always been that way. Melody is one of those people, and we’re really glad she’s here.

Ever wonder what happens to your pottery when you leave the studio?

We take good care of it, promise! ❤️

First, your piece dries slowly, under cover. Once it's bone dry, it's ready for its first trip into the kiln.

We start with a long preheat, then slowly bring the kiln up to a cozy 1,900°F for the bisque firing. Then comes the long, slow cool-down.

Once the kiln is cool, we unload everything and glaze your pottery in the color (or colors!) you chose when you were here.

And then... BACK INTO THE KILN IT GOES.

The second firing reaches around 2,300°F. This is where the magic really happens. The glaze melts and bonds to the clay, transforming your piece into a dramatic, finished ceramic; food safe, oven safe and YOURS.

Then, one more slow cool-down.

We carefully unload the kiln, bring your finished pottery two doors down to be securely wrapped and boxed...

And THEN we call you.

It's finally ready!

There is a LOT that happens between “I'll come back and pick it up” and that phone call. 😂

If you want to make pottery with a whole group of people, we do that too!

Private parties and holiday gatherings are now booking at Wrenworks. Bring your friends, family, coworkers, or your favorite group of troublemakers and spend a couple of hours making something together.

It's National Dog Day, so obviously we're going to talk about dogs. 😂

There are a whole lot of good dogs in local shelters right now who are waiting for their people.
So today, we're giving a little love to Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS) and all the pups waiting for homes.

Thinking about adding another furry roommate to your household? Go take a look!

Not ready for that level of chaos? 😂 A donation, a supply, a volunteer hour, or even a share can help, too.

Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Today, we feature my partner in all things.

Wrenworks is what it is today thanks, in large part, to his guidance in all things “adulting.”

From fixing broken kilns (“It’s easy,” he says!), pulling mystery items from plumbing pipes (“Smell this!”) to casually throwing a huge bowl on the wheel (with his eyes closed), this guy does it all.

I was running this studio out of a battered notebook when we joined forces, with no real plan and a very strong “jump and the net will appear” mentality. (I still believe that can work in some situations.)

Now, we have systems, procedures, and a path forward. Because being good with people only gets you so far. At some point, somebody has to figure out how the hell everything is actually going to work.

And he's handy as all get out.

One day I said, “Man, it would be so cool to be able to offer Raku firing.”

“Hold my tea,” he said.

And over the next several weeks, pieces of metal, cranks and pulleys were welded together into a functioning Raku kiln.

Now, he facilitates monthly Raku firings right here in the parking lot.

And not only that, he may be a budding fashion designer, as evidenced by the Wrenworks logo Hawaiian shirt.

I've never had such a cheerleader in my life, and I am truly grateful.

He brings a witty sarcasm and a can-do attitude to this place. And though he prefers to remain behind the scenes, y'all know who he is.

So next time you see him, thank him for his tireless dedication, his willingness to fix approximately anything, and for helping shape Wrenworks into the amazing community it is today.

I couldn't have built this place without him. ❤️

WRENWORKS JR. NEEDS 4 MORE KIDS!

We’re ready to get our Saturday clay club going — we just need 4 more young potters to join us.

Every Saturday, kids ages 7–12 spend 90 minutes making a brand-new project out of clay. Mugs, bowls, planters, playful critters… every week is something different.

We teach them step-by-step from a lump of clay all the way through their finished piece. They choose their own glaze color, and we handle the glazing and firing.

Saturdays • 10:00–11:30am Starting Saturday September 29th
Ages 7–12 • $25/session
No experience needed.

Sign up for 3 months and save $25.
