Yes, the next Mid-Week Music concert (June 10) is a Sam Cooke show with Mark Gunter and Jim O'Neil, but that doesn't mean one can't start practicing for the July 8 Torch Songs concert with Aja Bowley and Mike Effenberger by borrowing Ron Breton's hi-hat, setting it up next to one's nearly 50-year-old snare drum and playing along to classic versions of the 17 wonderful tunes we'll be performing, like Ella Fitzgerald's "Someone to Watch Over Me," Billie Holiday's "Come Rain or Come Shine," and Etta James's "Stormy Weather."
