🔨 IN YOUR BACKYARD: Behind the Scenes of Local Life 🔨

What happens when you bring talented makers, creative businesses, and a shared workspace together under one roof? Come find out!

This month, In Your Backyard is heading to Factory 3 in Portland—a unique makers market and creative community where local entrepreneurs and makers come together to create, build, and share their work.

We’ll get a behind-the-scenes tour, learn more about how Factory 3 operates, and hear what makes this creative space so successful. It’s a great opportunity to see the people, ideas, and hard work behind the scenes!

In Your Backyard is a Kennebunkport Rec program designed for adults 18+ who are curious about the local businesses and places that make our area special. Each month, we go behind the scenes, meet the people who make it happen, and learn something new along the way.

📍 October 13: Factory 3 – Portland, ME
🚌 Meet at the Kennebunkport Recreation Building and travel together in the Recreation Van!

🚒 Firefighter Park Playhouse Update! 🚒

We’re getting closer and closer to seeing Barbara’s vision for the Firehouse Playhouse come to life at Firefighters Park!

The exterior is nearing completion, and it is looking absolutely amazing. Barbara has put so much time, creativity, and care into this project, and her dedication has truly been incredible to watch. We can’t wait to see the finished playhouse in the park!

We also want to give a huge shout-out to Gordon from Cape Porpoise Carpentry for all of his help, guidance, and expertise throughout the build. Gordon has been an invaluable resource to Barbara, helping her work through different aspects of the construction and sharing his knowledge along the way.

This is such a wonderful example of what can happen when members of our community come together and share their time and talents. ❤️

Thank you, Barbara and Gordon, for helping make this special project a reality! 🚒❤️

Stay tuned… we’re getting close!

A huge thank you to some wonderful members of our community who have been helping local resident Barbara Lyons bring a very special project to life! ❤️🚒

Barbara is creating a playhouse modeled after the historic Cape Porpoise Fire Company 2, and it is coming along beautifully! We would like to give a special shout-out to Gordon Lewis, Steve Slarsky, Susan Field, Joe Frank, and Andres Bloomingdale Jr. for lending their time and talents to help make this project a reality.

And an extra thank you to Keith Nunan for creating the beautiful finials for the top of the building!

Once complete, this one-of-a-kind playhouse will be donated to the Firefighter Park Playground, where we know it will bring so much joy to children for years to come. We can't wait to see the finished product!

Thank you all for your generosity, creativity, and willingness to help make something so special for our community! ❤️

I think the photos will really help tell the story of how much work and care is going into this special project!
