This week our spotlight vendor is Patrick and Nostalgia Chandlery!
Patrick started Nostalgia Chandlery about five years ago. His coworker had started making candles and he really liked them and the idea. Soon, his coworker had decided to stop making their candles and offered to sell all of the materials and supplies to Patrick— he accepted! Now he and his wife make 22 different scents of candles, all themed after cocktails.
The scent recipes, wick size, and a few other things had been updated since Patrick took over the candle supplies from his coworker. When coming up with new recipes, they usually try to use the sample scents given from the supplier and add things from there. Sometimes they have an idea of what they want a new scent to be so they will tinker around with different oils to get to what they believe smells best and most like what they are aiming for. They use a soy coconut wax blend for the candle base. This is along with phthalate free oils ensure that the candles burn cleanly.
When making a batch of candles, they make 9 at a time. First they melt the wax then scents get added and mixed. During this time, the tins are getting heated in the over to help avoid air pockets forming when the hot wax gets poured in. After the wax is poured into the tins, it typically takes a couple of hours for them to solidify.
Some of Patricks favorite scents include the Godfather, Artillery Fire, and Necromancer.
Some of the best selling candles that Nostalgia Chandlery has are Into the Woods (pine/spruce), Blackberry Bramble, and Gin & Tonic (juniper and driftwood)
Nostalgia Chandlery is also a Veteran owned business, and they are local to Southern New Hampshire.
Patrick’s favorite part of being at the market is the great venue and how well run it is. He excited to see all of the different customers that will come through, since it is a big vacation area.
