The spotlight vendor this week is CopeCraft and Chauncey!
He spent his childhood summers on the CT shore fishing, clamming, and taking daily excursions to see what the tides had washed ashore overnight. He especially enjoyed collecting driftwood and seeing what image from nature was reflected in each piece. His interest in wood art began in 1978 while working on a piece of scrap wood using an old soldering iron, which is the same one he still uses today! Thoroughly enjoying this wood-burning/pyrography technique, and the aroma of burned wood, he continued this effort on driftwood, barn board, etc. This also lead to experimentation of this wood-burning technique but utilizing gel pens instead.
Full time work, family, public service, etc. did limit the amount of time one could spend in these efforts however.
It was only after retiring and moving to Kennebunk that was he able to focus his attention on this craft. In 2017, he applied to the Kennebunk Artisans Marketplace and so enjoyed the venue and the opportunity to interact with others that he knew that he would want to be a vendor at each Saturday event. He continues to bring to the Marketplace his nature-themed gel pen artwork, wood-burned pieces of art such as cutting boards and serving trays, and wood carvings. His sister also contributes, and creates beautiful Maine C**n Cat portrait notebooks!
