Those of us that craft know that it's time to start the Halloween crafts. This has to be the most fun I've ever had making a shadow box!
Here's your "how to."
*All glass was painted over with "mushroom" alcohol ink to give it an aged/eerie look, as were the corks in the cylander bottles.
*The scroll details and hardware were made with DAS modeling clay and molds and then painted with a brown chalk paint and then hit with some gold gilding wax when it dried.
*The beetle wings (which are hard to see) are peices of pine cone painted gold.
*The frog and beetle (in the bottle) were found in the toy section at the Dollar Tree. They were painted black, followed up with gold gilding wax.
*The large spider was a leftover from the Dollar Tree from last year. It was purple glitter, but I pounced on black paint.
*I got the skeleton heads off of Amazon and painted each with the mushroom alcohol ink to make them look aged. I then attached them and glued them together.
*I had the test tubes hanging around, but have just ordered more off of Amazon. There's a Jenga peice supporting them in the back.
*The spider web is ribbon from the Dollar Tree, which I painted black.
*The Spanish moss was from the Dollar Tree.
*I used the following glues: E6000, hot glue(for instant hold), Tacky glue (for the moss and labels).
*I had the box hanging around forever, which I stained with the brown chalk paint from Walmart and quickly wiped it off so it showed the woodgrain.
*The spiderweb pattern on the top was used with a stencil and molding putty. After it dried it was painted with the brown chalk paint and hit with some gold gilding wax.
This was a lengthy project with a lot of steps, but I love the finished peice. You can be as simple or elaborate as you want when creating yours. I just hope you're inspired to try!
