Congratulations again to scholarship winners Bethany H., Izzy P., and Kathleen M.!!!
The theme for the artwork was to "create a painting inspired by their favorite place in nature, or a house surrounded by a garden. This place may be real or imagined—somewhere that brings peace, joy, memory, or a sense of belonging."

Over Spring Break, several KHS art students got to participate in the Southwestern Adventist University's Fine Arts Festival. On Thursday, they attended workshops on expressing emotions in art led by Mavis Mann-Rojas. On Friday, they had the amazing opportunity to learn about watercolor techniques from renowned artist Nathan Greene. Then on Sunday, they were honored at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas during the band and choir concert. Thank you, Marcela Wall, for giving our students this opportunity for the past two years!
Three of our students received scholarships for their artworks!! Congratulations to Bethany H., Izzy P., and Kathleen M.!!! And thank you to these art students for continuing to represent KHS so well and for showing how talented the students here are!!!

On Valentine's Day, art students competed in the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE). Of the 14 entries, 10 received the highest rating, 4, and medals. The competition scores artworks on their artistic merit, and the interview students have with a judge on the day of the competition. We are so proud of all of the students who participated! Art is vulnerable, and putting yourself out there can be hard, but these students did so bravely and proudly. Check out our next post to see the artworks the students took to the competition!

Pictures from Art 2, 3, and 4's field trip to the Dallas Museum of Art last month! They explored the museum in search of an artwork to recreate for their final project of the semester. Stay tuned for photos of their master copy projects!

And a big shout-out to Ms. Keene for driving the bus and chaperoning, and to Mrs. Nix and Mrs. Alvarado for chaperoning our largest group on this field trip yet!
