Hailed by The New York Times as “a versatile, charismatic soprano endowed with brilliant technique and superlative stage instincts...indispensable to New York’s new-music ecosystem,” MELLISSA HUGHES enjoys a busy international career in both contemporary and early music. Recent highlights include Chicago Symphony’s “Beyond the Score” performances celebrating Pierre Boulez; Ted Hearne’s Wikileaks oratorio “The Source” at BAM, LA Opera, and San Francisco Opera; international performances with John Zorn, Alarm Will Sound, Bang on a Can All-Stars, a solo recital for American Songbook at Lincoln Center; and an acclaimed recording release of Jacob Cooper’s Silver Threads, from Nonesuch Records. Hughes’ additional discography includes multiple albums from New Amsterdam records, and “Shelter”, a video opera by Bang on a Can composers Michael Gordon, and Pulitzer Prize winners David Lang and Julia Wolfe, released by Cantaloupe Records. As a backing vocalist, Hughes has appeared with the Rolling Stones, The Roots, The National, and is featured on an episode of the WNYC podcast Radiolab where she sang mathematical formulas to calculate weights and measures. As a choral conductor and clinician, Mellissa has worked with The American Boychoir, the Princeton Girl Choir, and the San Francisco Girl Choir. Mellissa currently resides in her home state of New Hampshire and serves on the faculty at Plymouth State University, Saint Anselm College, and St. Paul’s School in Concord NH and holds degrees from Westminster Choir College and the Yale University School of Music.

Charles Blandy, tenor. Charles Blandy has been praised as “a versatile tenor with agility, endless breath, and vigorous high notes" (Goldberg); “breathtaking” (Boston Globe); “fearless” (New York Times). He made his Boston Symphony Orchestra and Carnegie Hall debut in Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. He has sung works of Bach at BachFest Leipzig with Emmanuel Music; with Orchestra Iowa, American Bach Soloists (SF), the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, and American Classical Orchestra (NYC). With Emmanuel Music he has also performed lead roles in Stravinsky’s Rake’s Progress; Britten’s St. Nicolas, and Mozart’s Abduction from the Seraglio. Other appearances include Tanglewood Festival of Contemporary Music, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Boston Early Music Festival, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Upper Valley Baroque, and Handel and Haydn Society. He studied at Tanglewood, Indiana University, and Oberlin College. He is originally from Troy NY.

Julie Bowdren Biffle, originally from Kittery, Maine, is a soprano whose work spans early music, major choral repertoire, and contemporary chamber music. She performs with professional ensembles throughout the United States, with appearances across Texas, the Midwest, and New England, including Verdigris Ensemble, Orpheus Chamber Singers, Dallas Chamber Choir, Orchestra of New Spain, Kentucky Bach Choir, Vox Seraphim, Vermont Chamber Artists, and Zenith Ensemble. Selected performances as soprano soloist include Mozart’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Magnificat, Monteverdi’s Magnificat a 6, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Carissimi’s Jephte, Schütz’s Musikalische Exequien, Howells’ Requiem, and Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb. In contemporary repertoire, she has appeared as soprano soloist with Verdigris Ensemble in Anthony Maglione’s Dust Bowl, Nicholas Reeve’s Betty’s Notebook, Sarah Kirkland’s Mass for the Endangered, and Sahba Aminikia’s award-winning SHAMS.As a poet, Julie was commissioned by composer Mari Esabel Valverde to write an original text for a new choral work premiering at BLINK in October 2026. Her poetry has also been featured in new works premiered by loadbang and Quince Ensemble.

Say hello to Anna and Agnes!

Violist/violinist Anna Griffis performs widely on both steel and gut strings in music old and new. She is principal viola of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra and Boston Festival Orchestra, a member of the Albany Symphony, and appears regularly with ensembles including Emmanuel Music, A Far Cry, Boston Baroque, Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, and Boston Ballet. She co-founded Trio Speranza, prize winners at the EMA Baroque Competition, and serves as executive director of the new music group Ludovico Ensemble. Anna teaches at Tufts University and the New School of Music in Cambridge, and is an affiliate artist at MIT. She also works in arts marketing and communications and is a freelance graphic designer. Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, Anna is the proud product of her public school music program. She now lives in the great neighborhood of Lower Allston with her husband and cat, and gets excited about road trips, diners, and thrifting.

British-American soprano Agnes Coakley Cox is a specialist in the performance of early Baroque music and a sought-after ensemble musician. Agnes’ desire to bring early music to life has led her to become an expert in the historical performance practice of singing. She is co-founder of In Stile Moderno, New England’s ensemble for 17th-century music, and has also enjoyed recent collaborations with early music ensembles such as Arcadia Players, the Folger Consort, and Alchymy Viols. Recent ensemble appearances have been with the New Consort, the Handel & Haydn Society, and Upper Valley Baroque. Agnes is also proud to add “voice of the universe” to her qualifications, as a regular soloist with the Boston-based Multiverse Ensemble in the new works Black Hole Symphony and Mars Symphony. Agnes lives in Greenfield, MA with her husband Nathaniel and their two children. She is a member of the voice faculty at Deerfield Academy. Visit Agnes online at www.agnescoakley.com
