Blue Cinder Studio & bluecinderbiologica We are a small design company on the Big Island of Hawaii; ceramics, glass, metal, multi-media. He is currently working on several new bodies of work.

Blue Cinder Studio is a husband and wife team of two artists who work both individually, and collaboratively. Shelby Smith has an undergraduate degree in Architecture, and in Ceramic Design from KU, and an MFA in Spatial Art from SJSU. Kimberly Langston Hagen was a biology and literature major for most of her first degree from UCSC, and also has a BFA in Spatial Arts from SJSU. She has just launched a new line of porcelain jewelry that is now available on Etsy under BlueCinderBiologica.

Shelby and I have been invited to be in a collaborative ceramic show at the Donkey Mill Art Center in Kona, Hawaii… and I got to make more porcelain BUGS!!💓

Shelby has created a series of porcelain wire-dipped architectural pieces that reference the human head, and I’ve created porcelain bugs and a set of porcelain ‘Alala—our Hawaiian Crow—eggs reflecting native and non-native creatures found on the island that will be part of each one. We are thrilled with this new body of work! More pics coming soooooon!✨
