Ka Hale Hoaka

Ka Hale Hoaka Maile Naehu is co-founder and lead kumu of Ka Hale Hoaka, an online school of Hawaiian Knowledge.

Ka Hale Hoaka ’s mission is to bring our classes into the homes of 'ohana in effort to connect them to the pillars of Hawaiian identity so it may strengthen and empower connections to others, our land and natural world. She is a Kanaka Maoli Boricua, educator, performer, artist, and community organizer and activist of Aloha ‘Āina from the island of Moloka’i, Hawaii. She is also the director of the Molokai Nui a Hina project, a multi-generational community art project that is founded in traditional storytelling. With more than 20 years of being an educator in Hawaiian studies, language and arts, she applies indigenous philosophies and practices such as Mo’olelo; oral tradition, ‘Olelo Hawai’i; Hawaiian language, Hula; dance and oli; chant to her teachings. Through teaching storytelling via various art mediums she emphasizes great importance in building communication skills, self confidence, and a new generation of storytellers. She strongly believes that ancient wisdom within the stories of our ancestors holds the answers to modern day problems. As a cultural practitioner she has represented Hawaii as a delegate, a presenter and as a consultant for both national and international gatherings and conferences in education, the arts, and conservation. Kumu Maile, as most refer to her as, is Vice Chair and lead educator for Hui o Kuapa, 501c3.
